What’s better than one Sonic and Mega Man universe? You tell me.
Perhaps a bit awkwardly tangential in light of recent news, Comics Alliance have held an interview with Archie Action Comics editor Vincent Lovallo, Not only does this recap part one and give us another behind the scenes insight, but it comes with the preview for Sonic Boom #8. After the events of the last Sonic Boom story have unfolded, Sticks gets a real surprise when she runs into some of the cast of Mega Man X! But there’s hardly time to joke about as Sigma makes the two wacky doctors get to work on retooling the main universe heroes into minions of his own. This cannot be good! This is “Worlds Unite”: part 2.

Worlds apart, they couldn’t be more opposite if they tried.
Well, haven’t the last few weeks been interesting. SSMB has been down (and undergone a slight time warp), and a few technical hiccups have delayed these comic updates. But now we’re aiming for the right track with a catch-up on what’s gone down. And as luck would have it, we got a very rare occurrence; two comics came out on the same day!
Comic Book Resources has the preview for Sonic #270. The Chaos Emerald Championship draws on, and more big names bite the dust. Amy takes on Knuckles as he goes about his mission, Sonic tackles the mischievous Honey, and the Hooligans are still running about like loose cannons. But things aren’t as straight forward as they look on the surface, there’s treachery afoot, and it has Eggman all over it, and there’s more shade about Breezie’s past than one would think! All this fights its way into “Champions”: part 3.
“Champions” Part Three: The battle for the Chaos Emerald is reaching a fevered pitch! Hero versus hero! Villain versus villain! Will Dr. Eggman be content to play by the rules? Will Metal Sonic come in and shake things up? And what exactly is the secret history between Metal Sonic and casino mogul Breezie?! All of the answers await you in this thrilling, penultimate chapter! Featuring all-new cover art from one of the newest Sonic superstars Jennifer Hernandez, plus a special “Marvel at the Showdown” variant cover by the incomparable Brent McCarthy!

Arcade Sushi are the ones with the preview for Sonic Boom #5. Eggman wants to manipulate the village for his own sick amusement, but how can he take advantage of them with a zero publicity rating? The solution to try and get into their good graces, and the answer for that to him is to throw an event for them. But he’s not going to get far with that unless he calls in the help of our heroes. Join in the ‘festivities’ and make a trip to the fair in “Eggtoberfest”.

Just one small problem: the mechanical master forgot to hire ride operators for his carnivorous carnival creation! So it’s Sonic to the… rescue?! If a good guy helps a bad guy, is that “helping” at all? Ponder this and other philosophical queries in the latest action-packed issue of Sonic Boom, written by Sonic Boom TV Series writer Bill Freiberger! A new month brings new issue details, and this month is bringing in the monsters on the covers!
Midtown Comics is covering both of the new issue details this time. Firstly from them, Sonic, Amy and Rotor continue their underwater recovery of the Chaos Emeralds, only to run afoul of political problems when their new friend Coral (who isn’t actually on the regular cover at all, he’s a new Mantis Shrimp character!) gets in bad books with her own government. Then, continuing the back-up story of last issue, the plan that Sally concocted to tackle Eggman’s plans appears to have gone awry! This is “Waves of Change”: Part 2 and back-up “Light in the Dark”: Part 2;
(W) Ian Flynn, Aleah Baker (A) Evan Stanley & Various (CA) Matt Herms, Tracy Yardley
Dive into the action in ‘Waves of Change’ Part Two! Sonic, Amy, and Rotor-in the deep sea and in deeper trouble! When their new friend Coral has run afoul of her government, will Sonic and the Freedom Fighters stand by her side? Or will they risk becoming fugitives? Then, in ‘The Light in the Dark,’ Sally’s simple raiding plans take a turn for the worse! Featuring new cover art from Sonic superstar Ben Bates and a hilarious new ‘Is it Summer Yet??’ Variant cover by Tracy Yardley! and Matt Herms!
Then, as was simultaneously revealed, the fight between team Chaotix and team Hooligan wages on. Knuckles has his own job to do so he has to work on through the mad grab for the Chaos Emerald. But who he finds is arguably more striking (not the match on the regular cover, though)…and dare I say possibly more important. This is “The Great Chaos Caper”: Part 2.
(W) Ian Flynn (A) Jim Amash & Various (CA) Tracy Yardley
‘The Great Chaos Caper,’ Part Two. The chaos continues! It’s hijinks and high explosives galore with Knuckles caught in the middle of all the action! The Chaotix and the Hooligans are falling over each other to get to a Chaos Emerald – the key to saving (or dooming) the world! It’s up to Knuckles to power through the madness and complete his own mission, and in his travels, you’ll never believe who he finds! Featuring new cover art from Tracy Yardley and a rad red SEGA Variant cover!
Whatever happens in these issues, you can guarantee that there will at least be a good amount of Gaia minion thrashing! We’ll have more info on these issues closer to their release.

Learn more about the new team dynamic in an applied context. Also find out what effect the memory jolts had on their work. Meanwhile, Eggman is hatching a new scheme and it’s going to be big…and perhaps involving cucumber sandwiches. This is “Damage Control”.

Sonic and the Freedom Fighters must spring into action to save the day, unless someone beats them to the punch. Cue: Dr. Eggman. Will the evil doctor be the one to save the world? The newest previews for various Sonic comics have just come out and they show a number of very interesting things for both long term readers and new readers to the comic.
According to the cover of a future Sonic Super Special, there will be a comic book adaptation of Sonic Lost World, the sample text that came with it claims that the story will be 20 pages long and be the longest archie videogame adaptation to date.
Long terms fans of the comic might find the next bit of news more interesting. For the last year or two, there have been a number of rather noticable changes in the comic, some subtle, others are quite obvious. Why is this? Well, some believe that Sega might finally be trying to bring the comic more in line with the games, others suspect it’s to do with legal reasons against people who frankly I don’t want to give any attention to. Whats the truth? Probably a combination of them both.
Anyway, one major change which was announced around a year ago was that the long running character Sally would be getting huge design change. Looking at the preview images for the comics, it would seem that she’s not the only one whose had a design change.
The following is the cover for issue 254.
As noticed by a number of SSMB members. Along with Sonic, there appears to be two supporting cast memebers there, Rotor and Antoine, whilst Rotor looks slightly different, the biggest change is Antoine, it would appear as if he’s outgrown his jacket.
Also if you take a look at the Super Special cover again, you’ll notice that it has the line ‘Your official guide to the all-new Sonic Comic Universe’ written on it. In addition to that it has other supporting cast members on it which seem to support the theory theres been a design change.
Apart from Sally which we already knew about. You can also see the character Bunnie who now has her robotic arm back as well as a few other changes.
So anyone like the new designs? Anyone gonna pick up the issues to see whats going on?
