In today’s “Japan gets all the cool stuff” news, SEGA is celebrating Sonic the Hedgehog’s 29th birthday by making sure its arcade-goers don’t go hungry. A select number of Tokyo-based SEGA Taiyaki stores will be selling taiyaki in the shape of the blue blur’s face!
As you can see, the taiyaki is in the shape of Sonic the Hedgehog’s head. So, er, that’s something. Most taiyaki in Japan come filled with red bean paste, but this special edition snack will be packed with cheese chili dog flavour. Perfect for Sonic, and perfect for you!
The Sonic Head Taiyaki will be available at Tokyo’s Akihabara and Ikebukuro SEGA Taiyaki stores, from Friday June 26th. They’ll cost ¥300 a piece, making it a perfect complement for Japanese cinemagoers who will want to see the Sonic Movie, as that’ll be finally launching in theaters there too.
The whole thing comes with a cute little piece of promo art as well. Sonic snacking on a taiyaki. Yum yum!
