The next ten games have been announced for the upcoming Sega Mega Drive Mini, and – despite the fact that SEGA recently polled for only one game per series to be included – Western versions of the micro-console will be able to enjoy Sonic the Hedgehog 2 as well as the 1991 prequel.
Sonic 2, of course, is already included in the Japanese version of the Mega Drive, but Sonic 1 isn’t – and it’s unlikely that it will. Sonic 1 has a closer affinity with the Western market, due to it being a pack-in title for many years.
Other new reveals for the Western lineup include the popular Disney platformers Castle of Illusion and World of Illusion, along with Earthworm Jim, Streets of Rage 2, Shinobi III and Contra: Hard Corps/Probotector. Japan will get Castle of Illusion and Contra, along with some exclusives such as Dyna Brothers 2 Special and The Hybrid Front.
One title, seemingly exclusive to Japan, ‘Game no Kanzume Otokuyou’, is in fact a compilation of several bite-size titles originally broadcast on the Mega Drive’s ill-fated ‘SEGA Channel’ online service. So that’s a cool little addition. Full list of new titles are below.

Two Mickey games but no Moonwalker?? W-what about TRUXTON?
I’m excited more people will be able to play World of Illusion. It’s such an underrated classic.
