On October 24, The Sonic Stadium Will Be 15 Years Old

Strange Scary, isn’t it? In just four days, this little website about Sonic the Hedgehog will be a decade and a half old. I personally would have spent half my entire existence keeping this thing alive (actually, let’s not think about that bit). It was on that day, 24th October 2000, that The Sonic Stadium was introduced to the world via the wonder of Angelfire‘s then-generous 20MB hosting solutions.

I’m working on a few things to celebrate the week in style, largely involving heady walks down memory lane. Timeline updates, discussions with staff old and new about their favourite memories of the site, hopefully a contest… and a special project that, as you’d expect if you know me by now, is top secret right now (that might not be ready this week though, but definitely soon). It’ll be worth it, I promise.

No, it’s not Sonic Smash Cards.

I’ll be decorating the site soon enough to get everyone into the mood. While you’re here, if you’ve been visiting TSS for a while, feel free to share your memories of this place – favourite features on the site, SSMB threads, SegaSonic Radio podcasts, anything (and if you want to do that on SSMB, you can do it here).

And as always, we’re only here because of you guys. So from the bottom of my heart, on behalf of the TSS team (past and present) thank you so much for your support and for making us your home to talk utter bollocks about a cartoon blue hedgehog for so long. It’s humbling, and I hope to keep this place alive for as long as you guys want it around.

We’ve got some plans for you all. We hope to keep you entertained and informed for many more years to come.

  6. Congrats! I’ve had an account since 2013, but never actually used it until recently. And I’m glad, because this is a HUGE community with tons of cool people (and it’s better than being in the open of the Sonic fanbase).

  9. Congrats! I remember getting into TSS in late 2014 after reading The Spin article about the Sega restructure. After seeing all the hysteria surrounding whether Sega was going to just make mobile games forever, it was nice to hear a voice of reason. The forums seem cool, and although I just lurk on them, I do check them daily.

    Here’s to a 15th birthday that will hopefully be better than the one Sonic got! 😀

      1. Yep! And shared it with a few friends on Miiverse who were curious about the restructure. The ones about Rise of Lyric were passed around quite a bit as well.

  10. I’ve been a fan of sonic stadium since 2005…It was about the time of shadow the hedgehog’s release when I found this website and since then, I check it at least once a day. Congrats and a big thank to all who keep this website alive!

    It’s still no use.

  16. It’s been a hell of a time guys. I will never forget the frustrations and joys of the Game Night Event, the times when we migrated to the IIRC chat, and when status updates broke. At least on SSMB.

    TSS is pretty rad though, congrats on being around for this long!

  17. Lol I didn’t know this site was so old. Let’s see….I was 7 years old when this site started. Wow. Anywho, Happy 15th anniversary.

  21. Proud to be a fan of this site since 2010. 🙂 At the time, I never knew that I could use the Internet to find video game news. So I relied on Youtubers like Cobi456 and Jakeiii to keep me up to speed with news on Sonic Colors. At one point, I looked in the description and clicked on the source where they got their info from. And here I am now. 🙂

    Even though Sonic news has been barebones this year, let’s hope that 2016 has a lot in store for him, and that we may read articles upon articles on this site just like old times!

  22. Congratulations on your 15th anniversary. Don’t rush the project you guys have in mind; you wouldn’t want a botched ‘celebration’ like Sonic ’06.

    Joking aside, I’ve happily been using this site for around five years. My favourite memory was when you reported on the Collectors Edition of Sonic Generations. It turned my already incredible hype into something else. Thanks again Sonic Stadium, and may you have a super sonic future.

  25. I’ve been to Sonic Stadium since 2012 which is a good website to go there a lot when is Sonic news or something related to Sonic Stadium & more so anyway congratulations Sonic Stadium is now fifteen years old on October 24th,2015 congrats!
