Hop aboard, because the multi-dimensional tour is about to embark!
Comics Alliance delivers with another weekly dose of Worlds Unite. There’s the usual recap, a Vincent Lovallo interview (this time focused around the end of act 2), and an exclusive preview for Sonic Universe #78. This time around it’s a plethora of SEGA and Capcom references as the heroes go about the Genesis Portals to recruit new heroes (and for Sigma to recruit new villains). The franchises may be listed in the solicit, but see if you can recognise all the characters individually! But it’s not all fun and games; not everyone went dimension hopping, and Sigma’s more than willing to punish them for that mistake…This is “Worlds Unite”: part 9.

Nice. I’m looking forward to this.
As if the Street Fighter cavalry wasn’t hype enough, it just fills me with a warm fuzzy feeling when Sonic meets Alex Kidd for the first time…
Auggh, I hate feeling this way, make it stop!
This isn’t the first time Alex Kidd met Sonic though. Alex Kidd met Sonic in Segagaga when he got replaced by Sonic as the main mascot and was force to work at a retail store… kind of a bitter reunion.
No one cares for Segagaga dude, even SEGA pretends that game never happen. Besides you don’t see Alex working in a retail store right now do you? That and they turned Alis’s hair blond for some weird reason
Their first true meeting gamewise was in Sega Superstar Tennis. Comic-wise, this is their first encounter.
Well fuck me for throwing down some trivia and making a joke. I guess that’s not allowed.
I just want to see how the Amaterasu and Issun (Okami) part will work out since they’re from ancient Japan so even seeing a robot will probably horrify and confuse them. They’ll probably mistake Sonic for an Oni too.
Er, I mean whichever Mobian goes to that world, only just noticed that mistake… o_o *facepalm*
Luckily they didn’t. Amaterasu decided that Sally and Wood Man were good people, but Issun at first thought they were some more monsters.
Yep, I’m actually pretty disappointed with how they’re rushing all the crossovers… Why did they leave them until near the end? They had all these issues to do it in… I mean, really, is someone who’s from a similar world (as far as species go) to ours really going to just believe and follow a talking animal (Street Fighter and Skies of Arcadia)? Is someone who spends all their time fighting demons, God or not, really going to instantly trust, again, a talking animal and her robotic companion? I mean Ammy didn’t even trust Waka for most of the game…
Well, I think they’re trying to get to the battle with Sigma quickly. On the bright side, it won’t be just heroes from those worlds that will join the fight.
True but it’s still annoying. As I said, they had all those issues to build up the trust they needed to recruit these characters from other worlds but instead they chose to draw the attempt at defeating Sigma themselves out for way too long and rush the other world intros… The crossovers was the biggest thing they hyped too so you’d think they’d work on that a bit more than “Letz beat this super powerful entity ourselves!” for over half of it.
Well, I also think this has to do with the fact that the crossover is 12 issues long. If it was longer, then maybe they would’ve handled these other universes better.
Yeah but did their (frankly idiotic) attempt at defeating an obviously highly powerful entity by themselves really have to last about 3 issues? I mean, come on, Sonic had already used a couple genesis portals himself and all the Megaman characters got there through a couple more! Why didn’t they put 2 and 2 together sooner?
Oh boy. This is gonna be exciting. I wonder if Bison will aid the heroes in this one.
