Takashi Iizuka Attending Gamescom 2011

There’s good news tonight for Sonic fans going to this year’s Gamescom event, with the announcement that Takashi Iizuka will be attending. The Sonic Team head disclosed the news of his attendance just 4 hours ago on his Facebook page with the short message you see below.

これからGamescomに参加するため、ドイツに向けて出発します!それにしても今、朝の6時…眠い…。
I’m going to Germany for Gamescom!

Iizuka has been very busy attending events around the world all year celebrating Sonic the Hedgehog’s 20th Anniversary and it doesn’t look like he’s going to stop anytime soon. We told you last week that SEGA will be going to Gamescom and will be designing their booth in the style of Green Hill Zone from the first Sonic the Hedgehog game on Mega Drive/Genesis. Attendees will be able to go hands-on with both console and handheld versions of Sonic Generations and Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games at the event, too.

Now we have to wonder if Iizuka is attending just to help SEGA with the Sonic 20th Anniversary celebrations and to do the usual interview rounds, or does he have some Sonic announcements to make? I guess we’ll find out this week.

Gamescom will run from 17th-21st August at the Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany.

  1. Most likely Iizuka might be there just for interviews, but if he did make an announcement on Generations, it might just be little cool things about Generations such as the skateboard from SA2. Maybe Iizuka could talk about how Sonic will interact with his friends in missions. <— (not a spoiler btw)

    1. That’d be cool. I’m hoping he’ll reveal a new stage for both console and portable versions of Sonic Generations though. We’ve still not seen anything other than Green Hill Zone and the Big Arm boss for the 3DS version. Oh, and the leaked data from the demo for the console version said something about a new build for Gamescom, so we hopefully will see a new stage.

      1. I’m also hoping for a new 3DS stage too! For the console version, I’m not so sure if SEGA might reveal another stage, but hey, most of us already know the stages and bosses, so why not reveal another one of them for Gamescom? 😛 So a new build huh? So that either means an updated version of Green Hill, or like you said, hopefully a new stage! Haha.

      2. Umm yes we did we saw Chemical Plant Zone Gameplay Footage i’d rather not i really dont wanna spoil myself there’s only 9 zones anyways.

Shadzter EDIT: Please keep extremely hateful comments like that to yourself. They are not welcome here. We don’t mind if you don’t like Iizuka and want to post some criticism about him, but comments wishing death upon him or anyone are plain out of line. Continue with comments like that and you’ll be banned from commenting.

  2. I hope they finally announce that secret Sonic game that was developed by SEGA’s Japanese R&D team, it’s most probably be an RPG style game similiar to Sonic Adventure and Sonic 06. It was probably developed alongside with Phantasy Star Online 2.

Sonic Generations looked a bit too low budget looking for a big Sonic game, and it looked more like it was developed by SEGA’s Studio USA team. It’s sort of like a third game in the storybook series, but with Sonic games instead of classical books.

It’s also possible that they might also announced that an European development team is currently developing a Sonic Chronicle type game.

    1. [DELETED] Sonic Generations doesnt look low budget at all and Sega Studio USA doesnt exist anymore nor does it develop games all games are made by SOJ AFAIK!

Shadzter edit: Please don’t offend others and call them names.

      1. Sonic Team USA does exist. Its just merged with Japan studio while Sonic Team France (Its EU ST studio right?) is standalone game studio.

Oh and USA Sonic Team division still makes games. If I remember right NiGHTS Journey of Dreams was made by them.

  3. He can as well show up on Sony conference. I mean obviously he wont show up on other 3rd party game companies but Sony is possible.

Second thing:NEW STAGE! Demo Files says we will have new build there so maybe new stage too!

  4. …All I can think about is the fact that if that picture of Sonic is to scale, Iizuka could probably sit in his hand.
