New Sonic FCBD comic announced

Sonic and his friends are in deep doo doo.

fLast year marked the first year that Sonic’s long running comic “Sonic the Hedgehog” from Archie took part in a comic book industry tradition called “Free Comic Book Day”, or FCBD. On this day, comic book stores across the country loaded their counters and stands with completely free comic books from a variety of different publishers. Last year, the comic sported an all new story written by the comics new head writer Ian “Potto” Flynn, a former Sonic fan comic writer famous for writing a variety of popular fan comics.

Sonic continues his participation this year, with a reprinting of his very first issue. The comic will sport an all new cover, which can be seen below along with the synopsis:

Sonic the Hedgehog has been speeding his way through video games, TV, and comic books since 1992! He is undoubtedly one of the biggest cultural icons throughout the world. Now, Archie Comics is paying homage to the blue blur by taking us back to where it all began. With the overwhelming success and popularity of the Sonic Archives reprint series, we are proud to bring you a reprint of the first-ever Sonic comic from the ongoing series: Sonic The Hedgehog #1! In honor of this year’s Free Comic Book Day, Archie is re-releasing the classic stories from this prized issue, but with a special bonus: the cover will be completely re-imagined with a modern “spin” by current Sonic artist, SPAZ!

This issue will be available May 3rd at any participating comic book store.
