Sonic Game Announcement Might be Imminent, SEGA to Release More Console Games, Says SEGA’s Chief Strategy Officer

It sounds like the long wait for the next Sonic game announcement may soon be over, if a statement by SEGA Chief Strategy Officer Shuji Utsumi is any indication. In a recent interview with Famitsu Magazine, he talked about SEGA and its upcoming software limit. On the subject of Sonic, he said the new an announcement for a new game “might be coming soon.” Noncommittal language aside, there are a few reasons to expect it will happen soon, since both E3 and Sonic’s anniversary are next month month, and Sonic Colors Ultimate was leaked roughly a month ago now.

In that same interview, Utsumi also commented on people pointing out that SEGA was releasing more mobile games then console games. According to him, the company has been going through an organizational shift, and that there will be more console games starting from 2022 onwards.

It’s been a long while since the last Sonic console game, Team Sonic Racing, was announced. It’s been even longer since the last console Sonic game was released. Whether its with a Sonic Colors remake, or something else, that appears likely to end soon. What are you hoping for this year? Let us know in the comments!

    1. I believe the dream will live on… I’m still waiting…

So thirsty for Adventure 3… Sega please help…

  1. I imagine it’ll just be the colors announcement tbh, but I’m happy to be proven wrong and have a mainline release or a major remake.

There’s a lot of great merch this year so even if there’s not much in the game category, I’m still vibing.

  2. Please SEGA, don’t rush Sonic Team, I’m fine waiting until 2022 and beyond for the next game.

  3. 9 year old me would be elated hearing this!

19 year old me is just sighing at this point.

I keep screaming but God won’t answer.

    1. The more likely time(s) would be in E3 or on Sonic’s birthday, which aren’t too long of a time away, so we still have hope.

  4. I wish i hope for Sonic Classics Collection with Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic CD and Sonic 3 & Knuckles remasters (albeit with the November 3 tracks from the Sonic 3 Nov. 3 1993 prototype build) and with smoother animations ala Sonic Mania).

  5. New Sonic Adventure game with new characters Like new male and female hedgehogs and a new male echidna.

  6. Its the new “revolutionary” game which promises “an entirely new experience, great gameplay”, and “signifies sega’s commitment to making quality products from now on”. Exactly the same thing theyve been saying since Lost World, and used it for marketing Forces. Fingers crossed they are not lying for the first time.

  7. I’m mostly hoping for a Sonic Unleashed port to PC. This Sonic Colors Remaster gives me hope.
