It’s Back! The 2021 Sonic Hacking Contest Has Been Announced!

It had only been a matter of time before the official announcement was going to be made, but it’s finally here. Get ready, because the Sonic Hacking Contest is returning once more, for 2021.

Every year, feedback from the previous year’s event is taken into consideration and implemented. This year’s contest has a couple of significant changes. The first one is that there is consideration being made to reserve time slots in the Contest Week’s stream schedule for developers of entries to showcase their own entry.

The second change is a major overhaul of the Contest division’s judging team. Instead of a single panel of judges that judged everything, the judging team has been massively expanded to include more Sonic hacking and modding community members.

Not only that, but Retro, 2D PC, and 3D entries are going to have their own judging panels full of people that specialize in that area, and they’ll only have to evaluate entries in that respective category. Judges can evaluate more than one category of entries if they want.

I’d (Donnie) know. I’m returning as a judge this year, and am the only contest judge that’ll be evaluating all the entries. Continuing to evaluate all the entries is something that I and my free time really don’t mind at all, and I really do enjoy seeing the amazing projects you all create every year, so I hope you’re all looking forward to that!

The Contest Week for this year’s contest takes place from October 11th to 17th. Just like last year, we’ll be streaming the various Expo and Contest entries that are available. So, stay tuned for more information on that as the event gets closer to happening.
