Our 2020 Sonic Hacking Contest coverage continues as we look at another Sonic Mania mod demo that’s available to download, and it’s another one with plenty of content. It’s time to take a look at Sonic Megamix Mania.
Sonic Megamix Mania is a re-imagination and recreation of the classic Sonic Megamix hack from years ago. All the zones from the original are being brought over, but you’ll be getting a “completely fresh and new experience”.
There are 5 playable characters in Sonic Megamix Mania. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Mighty and Shadow are all here, although Ray is gone to make room for Shadow. Each of them have unique moves that only they can do, and even the HUD, title card and music see changes depending on the character you picked.
Amusingly, Sonic Megamix Mania goes completely full circle. You see, Sonic Megamix was created by Stealth. Yes, the same Stealth that went on to be a part of the Sonic Mania dev team. And, yes, Stealth is very much aware of this mod. He played it himself last year!
All in all, Sonic Megamix Mania is one of the highlights of the Sonic Hacking Contest this year, and I recommend it. If you want to try out the mod for yourself, you can download it via the mod’s entry page here.
