A reprint of a critically-acclaimed art book covering the history of the Sega Mega DriveĀ is being crowdfunded on Kickstarter. Read Only Memory’s ‘Sega Mega Drive/Genesis: Collected Works’ was originally released in 2014 and included interviews with Sonic creators Yuji Naka and Naoto Ohshima, along with illustrations and concept drawings of the 16-bit console’s best titles.
The book has long been sold out, but a proposed second print run will give anyone who missed out the first time to own a piece of retro Sega history. Besides Naka-san and Ohshima-san, the tome features interviews with Sega co-founders David Rosen and Hayao Nakayama, Electronic Arts founder Trip Hawkins, Sega America President Tom Kalinske and legendary game designer Yu Suzuki.
With its first run, Read Only Memory proved that it had the chops to make a bona fide, high quality art book adored by press and fans alike. So to see this project potentially continue is more than welcome. The Kickstarter has 19 days to go at time of press, and has already passed the halfway point of its goal target. We reckon it’ll hit the goal pretty easily, but if you want to get in on the action, click the link below and pledge.
