PS: Sonic the Hedgehog #279 didn’t come out today either, so that’s still yet to be released (although Archie has made a statement that’s it’s still coming). 1. This looks so cool! I mean, I’m still partial to the Adventure Era, but hey… This is still refreshing to see!

      1. That is to say, if THIS was the anniversary game I’d be MORE than happy just to be AWAY from Boom!

        1. I love both the Adventure and the Genesis eras, and I’m glad to see nods to the Genesis era as long as the modern and Adventure eras don’t get forsaken in the process. I would still support a franchise split like what Mega Man did with its original series and Mega Man X.

Also, I’m trying to imagine Ian Flynn’s state of mind if Sega did reboot back to the Genesis era and force the comics to do the same. Not gonna happen, but it would be amusing to have another reboot so soon (not that I want this). I honestly think Sega intends to keep all incarnations of the Sonic franchise alive that it can.

  1. This does look cool, and Flynn means it will be fun. It’s also good to see that Archie Sonic isn’t dead. I’ll have to pick this one up.

  2. It’s def looking like this anniversary is going to go Classic, and I am going to welcome it with open arms. If they’re gonna hog nostalgia, they may as well go full on Classic.

        1. What if this plot is used in the 25th anniversary game and it gives a reason for Sonic and friend’s design change in SA1, showing the “evolution of Sonic” that Iizuka was talking about? I think that would be awesome

          1. I was going to say that this comic probably has as little do with with an upcoming Sonic game as the Sonic Genesis graphic novel did, but the latter did have something in common with the Generations game, didn’t it—at least as far as being an homage to the Genesis era.

          2. Yeah, I’d actually really like that. It’d also be nice to show how Sonic and Co. got to Station Square in the first place, assuming it wasn’t just the result of a “True Reset” of sorts.

Perhaps the game could end with Sonic and Tails landing in the city on the Tornado by sheer coincidence or something, sort of like the endings to Sonic Before and After the Sequel.

          3. What happened in Sonic X doesn’t mean a lick of anything for the games. All the main series games from Sonic 1 to Sonic Lost World take place on one planet (or in some cases planetoids around said planet) named Earth.

          4. Actually, the games before Adventure 2 didn’t name the planet, the only things (I believe) that actually gave it a name was the comics which called it Mobius and had it set as a future Earth which actually makes sense with X since Chaos emeralds have never had any transportation properties, only time manipulating, mutating and destructive properties.

          5. Whenever it was they decided to call the planet Earth, it retroactively makes the previous games take place on Earth as well because there’s not one iota of evidence that the Mega Drive games and the Dreamcast onward games take place on two different planets.

Sonic X’s continuity is completely separate from the game’s continuity. And don’t drag Mobius back from it’s grave. The final nail in that coffin was the Archie reboot, let’s keep it that way.

  3. Well hot damn, this looks pretty sweet. Probably the first time I’ve gotten legitimately hyped for the Archie series.

  4. Permission to squeeeeeeeeee? Not gonna lie, though, this sounds great and I love that cover, 6th of July just can’t come soon enough.

  5. Are you SURE you guys don’t mean issue 280 is the one that didn’t come out? I am sitting here looking at issue 279 right now.

    1. In physical form? Because if you mean digital, it was leaked for a bit before they were informed that it wasn’t coming out.

  6. This art is fantastic! It’s my favorite Sonic art style, and seeing the original group with their original designs seems refreshing. I don’t know, CD and OVA had a certain charm to them…

  7. I agree with many people here. This looks really cool, and the cover art is very well done. I’ll be sure to get this when it releases.

  8. Sonic Tails Knuckles and Amy are being pushed as the main 4

Perhaps the 25th anniversary game will have all 4 as playable characters for each Era as well as an “extra special character” for that Era

    For instance
    Classic- Metal Sonic
    Modern- Shadow
    Boom- Sticks

    Classic- 2D gameplay
    Modern- Adventure gameplay
    Boom- Boost gameplay

    That would be awesome!

  9. Eh. I don’t really care. Especially when Archie can’t even get their issues out from months ago.

  10. This sounds awesome! After having space-time-rewinds from the last anniversary celebration it’ll be refreshing to see a fresh new flashback story to add to some Classic-Adventure era headcanon! I can’t wait to see how great it’ll be! 😀

  11. I wouldn’t be surprised if Classic Sonic in this stays silent, and either has Tails do all the talking for him, or uses pantomime to do the talking. He’d be as mute as Pac-Man, Mega Man, and Jak from “Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy,” before Baron Praxis pumped Jak full of Dark Eco, leading to Jak’s First Words: “I’M GONNA KILL PRAXIS!!”

  12. I’m getting this. Like, you would have to get the Eggman army to stop me…….and even THAT might not be enough!

  13. What is going on with all the no-shows and delays suddenly? I really hope this isn’t a sign Archie’s running into financial and/or legal issues here… I was just getting into the reboot after it happened…

    1. He’s been working with Archie for quite a time actually, haven’t you read the recent Archie Sonic comics?
