Covers and Solicitations for Sonic the Hedgehog #281, Sonic Universe #84 and Sonic Comics Spectacular Revealed

New faces, old faces, they all mix as we turn up the heat for this delicious broth!

Comics Alliance is once again bringing the Sonic comic goodness first, this time with the covers and solicits for January 2016! First up, in Sonic the Hedgehog #281, we have two stories once more.  Sonic and the Freedom Fighters are out in Chun-Nan hunting down another Gaia Key, and Dulcy and her new team are pitching in to help. But their help, or any help, might not do much good against the looming force in “Wings of Fire”; part 1. Meanwhile, Bunnie and Tails are out on their own helping another Key Guardian in their time of need in “Homesick”.

This includes known characters like Tundra and Clove, older characters with new reimaginings like Conquering Storm and Akhlut, and entirely new faces that I can’t even put a name to yet! What is he using to keep them all in line…and can they even work together long enough to be considered a team? This is “Eggman’s Dozen”; part 2.

  1. Oh wow, I love Dulcys new look! I never liked her European dragon look, always found it a bit dull and uninspired but she looks like a proper Mobian now!

  2. That Silver Sonic in Dragon Road looks really badass!

And I have to admit I like that Love Strick variant, it’s funny how Blaze is immune to Omega’s cupid arrows XD

  3. Huh, so they did keep Dulcy. And she’s a Chinese Dragon now…?….Sweet! I gotta say, it’s nice to see her with a more bad ass appearance than her cute and cuddly definitely not Pete the Dragon look from the show and older comics. Not that I hated her or anything, I just though she looked a bit to rainbow brite cute and cuddly to be mixed in with a plot involving evil scientists, killer robots, and homicidal aliens from different reaches of space and time. It’s nice to see that she’s getting the Sega-ready touch up treatment as well, and that she’s been remade for a different part of the world too. I also love that Conquering Storm is back and that she looks largely unchanged for the most part. I gotta say, Akhlut being given a Mobian treatment is pretty interesting as well. I can’t wait to see how they made him personality wise, we’ve only seen him in at least one or two plots, I would have liked to have known him more. I guess this erases any chances of him being the infamous Orca from Sonic Adventure and Sonic 2006 though. And looks like they still have Kukku XV too. Oh boy, can’t wait to see what sort of tensions there are between the Egg Emperor and the leader of the Battle Bird Armada! I’m still in the middle of the Worlds Unite arc, so I’ve got a lot to catch up on!

    1. I agree with all of this comment, I really hope Dulcy’s still clumsy though since that was her entire character, like Antoine being a wimp.

  4. To provide a little context on the Comics Spectacular: it’s literally the Sonic equivalent of the Archie Comics Spectaculars, which are essentially just glorified digests.

  5. This is one of the reasons why the comics is possibly my favourite thing about the franchise currently.
    ^_^

  6. Eh, is it just me or does Dulcy look sort of like a female Vector?

I’ll also admit I’m rather disappointed in Archie for making what sounds like yet another reprint issue with Sonic Spectacular while cancelling a decent doing comic like Sonic Boom.

    1. That isn’t too outlandish an observation, her face has that structure in the eyes and snout. A bit too much to be honest.
