Sonic Boom’s UK run will only be 14 episodes & won’t be in HD

boomuk1

Sonic Boom is finally coming to the UK on Monday, however some details are now emerging which some may find extremely disappointing.

The first piece of news is that Boomerang UK is not a HD channel, nor does Boomerang have a HD channel. Meaning every episode of Sonic Boom in the UK will not be shown in HD, no 720p or 1080p for us, we have to make do with 4:3.

The second bit of news comes from the Sky+ app, Sonic Boom is now appearing on the TV listings when searched, each episode is listed along with a brief plot and episode number. It’s the episode number which is now drawing some concern. Based on the information from the Sky+ app, there are only 14 episodes in the UK’s Sonic Boom run.

If this information is correct, given how Sonic Boom is being shown from Monday to Friday in the UK, Boom’s entire UK run will be over in 3 weeks. Whilst it’s possible that this might be an error, looking at a number of other shows on the app, their listings appear to be correct. Another possibility is that this is a series break, but after only 3 weeks this would be a strange move.

We’ll keep you up to date if this information changes.

Thanks to everyone on our forums who pieced this together.

  1. Ugh, great. So we wait nearly an extra year then we get considerably less episodes… Glad to see the UK has their support!

  2. What? Wow. I REALLY hope that this is proven false. That’s seriously lame if true. I am so sorry.

  3. I’d attribute this to Sonic not exactly being huge in the UK, so broadcasters likely wouldn’t prioritise this show, or may think it’ll get negative feedback to it being tied to that trainwreck of a game.

    1. Sonic’s just as big here as it is elsewhere, it just doesn’t seem like it because the country’s got less people in it than elsewhere.

  4. I’m surprised you guys haven’t mentioned anything about the sudden break that the US has gotten from Sonic Boom, it’s like there’s no information as to why or when the show will start running again 🙁

    1. I Know, Right? But There’s A Rumour That Sonic Boom Episode 27 Will Only Appear Somewhere In August (I Really Hope That It’s Just A False Information). 🙁

  5. Hog, Boomerang isn’t (usually) 4:3, it’s a 576i channel like pretty much all SD channels in the UK.

  6. It’s like the higher-ups at Cartoon Network hate Sonic or something.

Seriously, they have a potential gold mine on their hands here, and they’re doing everything they can to dampen the experience.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Boom ends up moving to another channel, like Nick Toons or Disney XD.

  7. Kinda reminds how Boomerang UK f**ked up a certain other cartoon’s episode rotation in a similar fashion 4 years ago…

  8. What goes around comes around….

    ….cause….it’s a boomerang…

    I’ll show myself out.

  9. There’s been precious little information advertising the show full stop, US, UK or anywhere else for that matter.

The SD item isn’t really news, we were discussing it 2 weeks ago on the Sonic Boom Commentaries and is due to how Boomerang is set up. The 14 episodes situation is unusual, perhaps they will do a run of 14, take a hiatus and come back that way – but yes, rather disappointing for all concerned.

  10. eh figures, they probably don’t think it’s going to be as popular in the uk as america, which it probably wont, i’m surprized they even released it for the uk on tv, it would probably do well if it was shown on cbeebies.

  11. I can see the Sonic Boom Conics ending this year, AFTER the crossover. Maybe Cartoon Network can get the rights to air Sonic X, unless that belongs to Kabillion. After all, you Gotta Go Fast.

  12. Well, they always show for up until 7 days for a programme.
Although, I would have liked for this to be something to watch on Saturday mornings on Cartoon Network, or even a part of their Monday schedule. Actually… I wouldn’t really mind which day it’s on, as long as they do it weekly, like how they showed it in America.
Like… two episodes every week. That would be awesome, and it would stretch out how long it’s running for.

I would personally like something to be stretched out over a long period of time, rather than all at once in a short period of time. I know that it’ll disappear magically, at least to me, and I’ll be longing for it to return. :/

  13. Par for the course for kids TV. You have to remember they’re not targeting Sonic fans with this, they’re targeting kids. Kids that don’t care about 1080p or will notice if they don’t get the full run.

I don’t really watch broadcast TV anyway (nor do I have Boomerang). I’m just going to wait for a nice blu-ray or DVD set. Importing if need be.

  14. That sounds really strange. Is it really possible that between all the major regions of Sonic’s fanbase, UK doesn’t get as much attention as Japan and USA? :/
