After months of hype, the crossover between Sonic, Mega Man and a slew of other branches is finally on our doorstep! Destructoid have conducted an interview with writer Ian Flynn regarding the behind the scenes of it, and with it a preview for Sonic Universe #76 is also provided. Dreaded Maverick Sigma manages to make his way to the Lost Hex in Sonic’s World, and the first port of call is enlisting the Deadly Six to his side by promising more power than Eggman can offer. This can only end badly for the good doctor, and it’s not much better for our two blue heroes as their heroic duties are halted by a disastrous ambush! It all kicks off in “Worlds Unite”: part 1.

  1. I know I shouldn’t complain about the art given that it’s the Ghostbusters team of Dan Schoening, Luis Delgado and Jack Morelli and I love Dan’s work but maaannnng, the magic they puts into Ghostbusters does not work on Sonic. I mean it’s not bad but it feels a lot like Tracey’s old style from his Sonic X days – technically excellent with brilliant colors but stiff and lifeless. This is especially jarring after following up James Fry, Diane Skelly, Evan Stanley and Jennifer Hernandez.

What’s weird is back before GB, he did a commission for Ian of a Sonic Villain line up and it’s way better looking than the issue he did:

Maybe it’s all because it was probably last minute, or maybe because SEGA’s mandates to stay on model. He does have some great layouts though, and he did mentioned he preferred MegaMan and that shows (especially with X). I wouldn’t really object to them on MegaMan but not on Sonic, unless Dan is able to draw in his own style and Matt Herms was coloring.
