It’s time to strap on those skis and hit the slopes once more, as two of gaming’s icons are back to compete for the gold! That’s right, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games for Wii U is out now in Europe! SEGA have released a brand new launch trailer (above) to celebrate the occasion, showing off a comprehensive look at many of the game’s modes. There’s 24 events to participate in and, for the first time ever, you can play online and face rivals from across the globe!

Mario & Sonic 2014 can be purchased from both physical and online retailers, but if you prefer to own your games digitally, Nintendo has got you covered – the game costs £39.99 to download from the Wii U eShop. The game will arrive in the US next Friday, 15th November.

This fourth entry in the series has been receiving a mixed reception from critics so far but if you’re wondering whether we think it deserves a spot on the podium, you can look forward to our upcoming TSS review which will be hitting the site in the near future. Stay tuned!

      1. sega said all platforms will be getting sonic from now on ^^ so we can only hope the future is bright and the “console” gimmiks arent as harsh.

        1. i hope so man i mean we really need a true Sonic game with a true story
i know sonic 06 was bad for many but it had some sort of a story behind it ( silver and bad romance sections )
          and before that sonic heroes
so we need that kind of a real canon game with amazing music and no gimmicks just pure sonic

          1. Dude, Sonic Lost World was soooo close to capturing that feeling.

Sonic was as quick witted as ever,Eggman was actually very intimidating, and the Deadly Six really felt like a genuine threat.

But then the terrible ending that I will not name happened :/

  1. Seriously, I don’t want to sound like I’m nitpicking, but I REALLY don’t like Sonic’s rendering in these games. He looks normal in artwork and CGI cutscenes, but during gameplay he looks like he’s fresh from a lobotomy. Is it just me who thinks this?

  2. He does have a very different render in this game. His face has softer eyes and his mouth is right in the middle instead of at the side. It’s like they are trying to mold Mario’s face to Sonic’s to make them better fit together.

  3. I can’t get Mario and Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games since I don’t have a Wii U.

  4. Picked it up today from the HMV on oxford street because I was visiting London. Because I’m mad about Sonic music, I can’t wait to see what tracks I’ll be hearing. Also I have to wait until christmas to play it 🙁

  5. No thanks. These games are fun, but always feel exactly the same to me, but after how bad Lost World was for me, I will most likely end up buying it.

  6. Given that each installment of this series has sold less and less, I have a feeling this will be the last Olympics Collab or at the least this isn’t going to get people rushing out for WiiUs. Ashame that this one finally used Wiimotion + and online but even when I get a WiiU I probably won’t bother. Like all of you, I’d rather see Mario and Sonic collaborate in anything else. They claim that the game play styles are too different for a shared platformer but what about an RPG (Paper Mario: The Sonic Chronicles) or a Mario vs. Sonic fighting game (like Smash but just Mario and Sonic characters) or ditch the stupid Olympic tie in and just make Mario and Sonic Party since everyone mostly plays for the Dream Events anyway.

    1. A Paper Mario & Sonic RPG sounds like an epic idea! even a Mario & Sonic party game sounds like fun I’m up for that one.

  7. I hope this is the last one, they’ve been milking these games for far too long now, 1 was enough if you ask me, it was something special seeing Mario & Sonic together even if it was a sports game but now, seeing Mario & Sonic together, its become meh…..Give me a Mario & Sonic RPG or a huge Platformer, maybe then they could bring back the specialness.

  8. Another sports game with Sonic, on the Wii U, yeah, that’ll sure sell some more consoles, NOT.

With every new game Sonicteam pushes out the door, my love for this franchise dies even more. Last game I enjoyed was Unleashed, but since then every Sonic game have been meh to me. Just pure meh.

Here’s hoping the next game will be a lot better and free of any new characters.
