SEGA’s Super Sonic Raceway Experience at… Mercedes Benz World?

*holds hands up* I’ve tried, I promise you I have tried to find out as much as possible with this one, but I’m still at a bit of a loss when it comes to details and specifics. According to a handful or reports online. Sega have been holding a special Sonic event at Benz World. Not heard of Benz World? You know Mercedes Benz? Yes the car, they have a ‘Driving Experience Centre’ at a race course here in the UK. And, for some reason, Sega held a special day there.

Sega had a small presence there during this month in which they had face painting, showed off various Sonic products from the 2013 catalogue as well as Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. One of the more interesting products would be an unannounced Sonic Pinball game which you can see at the top.

According to the Mirror Online, at the end of the day children were given a certificate, a special medal and a goody bag to remind them of the day. The strange thing about this is, I cannot find any other information about it. Sega didn’t announce this in any way, even the Benz World website has no information at all about it. There’s been no advertising at all for it anywhere. In fact I can’t be sure if the event was name ‘Super Sonic Raceway Experience’ because there is no information on it anywhere other than a single blog and a random news article over at the Mirror.

There are however one or two very interesting this in the Mirrors article that have yet to be announced.

  • Sonic pinball game.
  • All Stars Racing Transformed Lunchbox
  • Personalised cakes
  • A bike!

But aside from those small details. I can’t tell you if this was a late ASRT promotion, a general products day, a special tie in with Mercedes over something, invite only product focus group day or heck, maybe Sonic has bought a car!

Anyone here go to this?

    1. *looks around* So what? You’ve got a product that sells and makes money. Make it.

    2. Umm…almost all franchises have merchandise. Why is Sonic the exception from this and instead a sellout?

    3. Just like Ninja Turtles during the original run of 1980 animated series. 😀

  1. Getting that Pinball table day one!!

And I kind of want that lunch box too…:3

  2. I see that the Mercedes F1 Team have resolved their lack of pace…by hiring Sonic the Hedgehog. Sweet.

  3. Hello and thank you for linking to my post. I was invited to this event- it was a media event to showcase the latest range of Sonic products (some pretty cool stuff in there). The piece in the Mirror pretty much covers it all. The only extra bit was that children over 150cm tall were allowed to drive a real car, which is a service they offer at Mercedes Benz World. I think the PR had hired the place for the event, it’s not like Sonic’s going to start driving a Merc.

Let me know if you want any more info, happy to put you in touch with the PR.

    1. Hi Joanne, Thanks for letting us know. Since I personally love the merch stuff I just thought it looked like a really cool event. Also thanks for posting a few pictures on your blog since it was the only window we had as towhat sonicy stuff they had there.

      Thanks again!

      1. I have passed on a link to this post to the PR company so hopefully they will stop by. I know they have a lot of images of the merchandise so you should be able to see what’s available.

        all the best

        Joanne

    2. Joanne, I see you share same last name with a friend I have. Are you by any chance related to Jonathan Mallon? He happens to be a Sonic fan and he lives in my area.

  4. Yay for a generic cheap pinball toy with probably exactly the same layout as all the other kids pinball machines that have came out in the last few years. I can dream, but imagine Stern pinball making a real, honest Sonic pinball machine! Given Sonic’s pinball history, it would be an obvious fit. it would only cost $6000… or at least let Zen Studios make a digital pinball table. I’d be able to afford that!

  5. Kinda lame that the pinball table isn’t based on Casino Night or some other pinball themed stage.
