First Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed 3DS Details

In a new preview just posted online, Pocket Gamer has shared the first details about the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. As expected, while the PS Vita version will be much like the console versions, the 3DS version will be pretty different. One of the differences is a different engine “more optimised for that sort of platform,” according to Sumo Digital’s Gareth Wilson. With the game running a different engine, it will be missing some game modes present in its big brother.

Pocket Gamer reports that the game isn’t missing content just because of processing power, but to adapt the game to different audiences.

“We got some children to come in and play [a level in which] you had to blow a tank up and dodge missiles and they didn’t really get that,” says Wilson. “We also had a mode where you had to dodge between lots of traffic and they kept getting run over really badly.”

Modes like World Tour are said to be much the same across all formats and both PS Vita and 3DS versions support online multiplayer, but the 3DS version will have simpler game modes “like ‘beat people’s laptimes’ or ‘beat this particular character’.”

According to Pocket Gamer, the 3DS and PS Vita versions will be available in Europe November 16th 2012, the same date the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are released.

  1. “We got some children to come in and play” Exactly the reas- oh forget it, I’m done.

Is video games no longer about practice anymore? Just pick it up and instantly be good at it? 🙁

  2. Good. I’ve orderd this on both PS3 and 3DS – will be nice to have different challenges to overcome. Plus “easier” challenges are probably more in line with “on the go” gaming, or things with LTD battery time like the 3DS.

Am also really Looking forward to my Mii racing against the fast blue one himself! Somthing this version of the game makes possible!!

  3. Mario kart 7 is the EXACT SAME THING. Its hard as in 150 and mirror mode cup.
I would love some challenge in S&ASRT rather than cpu getting run over 12 times still comming in first. Now i want to know if the childern will even buy the game…

  4. “According to Pocket Gamer, the 3DS and PS Vita versions will be available in Europe November 16th 2012, the same date the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are released. ” Aren’t the portable versions coming December 11th?

Well, of course! THEY’RE CHILDREN! It’s no wonder they sucked at the game immediately; they aren’t practiced gamers. Just because it’s on a portable system doesn’t mean that games have to be more simplistic. With the attention that larger companies are giving their portable systems nowadays, I’d like as close to the experience of a console as I can get. If I wanted something with no challenge value whatsoever, I’d just buy a bloody iSomething and download a myriad of so-called “games”.

  6. Ahem.
Back in my day, we had to PRACTISE at games. We were not instantly good at Castlevania. Some of us got lost in Metroid. The first time you play a game, you shouldn’t be able to clear the game easily.

Children of today really don’t have challenging games anymore. They just want instant satisfaction with anything they play.

    1. touche. Whenever my little bro plays a game and gets stuck at a tough part, he just quits. 😛 I know games take practice, but even us gamers have done this when we were kids, didn’t we?

  7. They may as well include those tracks, it’s more content! Isn’t that better? Even if children don’t want to play those tracks, that’s ok! They don’t have to! Besides, as Eggman would say: “The more the merrier!”

  8. I believe that the Vita version will be identical to the 3DS, I don’t think that Vita is capable of running the same engine used in the console versions.
