Mash-Up Monday: Rolling in the Depths of Hydrocity

You’ve been tuning in to either the radio, or maybe a few albums lying around the house. A person seated next to you might have her music on full volume from their iPods. There’s no denying that Adele is definitely one of the most popular artists in recent history, and it shows: it is almost foolhardy to escape or even drown out her music these days.

Get it? Drown out?

No?

Well, you should be able to get it now, because Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” collides with Acts 1 and 2 of Hydrocity Zone, the famous and fan-favourite water level from Sonic 3 & Knuckles, for this week’s Mash-Up Monday!

Here’s Act 1! Take the water slide down to Act 2 after the jump!

Note: Before anyone asks about the edited Hydrocity layout in the second video, bear in mind that this comes from the hack Sonic 3 & Knuckles: Master Edition.

Found an interesting mash-up somewhere on the net? Mashed a Sonic piece yourself with a completely different song? If you’ve answered yes to either question, then send it over to vizardjeffhog@sonicstadium.org!

  1. Makes me think Adele could be a……….closet Sonic fan? It fits almost too well.

Or to look on the flipside, originality has…gone down the toilet?

    Your call.

    1. “Originality has gone down the toilet.”

      *cough*party bus*cough*shitty Chemical Plant remix*cough*dubstep is terrible*cough*Skrillex has no creativity*cough*

Woops, sorry, I have a terrible cold.

    GET THAT S*** OUTTA HERE.

    But yeah, good remixes.

  3. Jeff i’m wondering if sonic youth ever releases and you make a post about it how many puns are you gonna make

  4. I don’t know… these don’t feel so much like remixes or mashups as… playing at the same time.

    I love the idea though!

  5. Frankly, Adele is one of the few music artists I’ve ever heard who I can’t stand ANY of her music. Of course judging from her incredible popularity, I’m in the ultra-minority. Even the awesomeness that is Hydrocity can’t drown out her whiny voice.

    1. Actually, I walk into any store and this particular song has me mentally rolling in deep, uh…you know what I mean…because they play it all the freakin’ time.

    2. I haven’t heard any of her music, but due to the fact that she’s a brand new artist that everyone knows, that must mean she’s bad.

  6. Just finished watching a Vocaloid cover of Set Fire to The Rain on YouTube, and now this. There really is a lot of Adele around, huh?

  7. This works really well, especially in the beginning, and the “We could have had IT ALL!” part

  8. Got to say, this is really good!

Sonic 3 vs Adele? Sonic 3 still wins hands down.

  9. I’ve never heard Rolling In The Deep and I’m proud of that. Therefore, I will not be listening to these. I’ve also never heard Call me maybe.

If you think I’m crazy for this, then all Ic an say is this: frak you I don’t listen to bad music. I’ll go back to my Black Keys, Beatles, Four Seasons, Ambrosia, Beastie Boys, Beach Boys, ZZ Top, Rush, Ozzy Osbourne, Edgar Winter, Buckner & Garcia, Blondie, etc. now.

Etc. really isn’t a good thing to follow that with because my music tastes have no discernable patter besides 60’s-80’s, for the most part. Oh, and video game soundtracks. If it’s a new song and it’s one that EVERY SINGLE PERSON KNOWS than screw that, it means it’s bad music.

      1. Hipster would be “I LIKED ADELE BEFORE SHE WAS POPULAR”. Besides, if it’s NEW music and it’s popular, then it’s going to be bad. Adele, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, any and all Dubstep artists and remixes, etc. Music was better before the 90’s came rolling around. And you wanna know the best part? I was born in the 90’s and I still hate new music. The only exceptions I have are Black Keys, Daft Punk, and Gorillaz. And I guess Murder By Death but I only have one album. So fuck new music.

  10. I’ve been thinking lately about making a mash up of aquarium park and Out of the Blue by Subfocus, I think they’d make a pretty cool combo. It’s a shame I have none of the resources to pull it off (eg. Any musical talent whatsoever) oh well I can always dream 😀
