Classic and Modern Videos of Mushroom Hill

There has been plenty of news and videos coming out of Gamescom this week. One of the latest ones, is some video of Mushroom Hill from the 3DS version of Sonic Generations. The classic version has a slightly remixed version of the Mushroom Hill music and has it’s level laid out almost identically to the original (Why make the same level?). The modern version has direct audio and the original MH music (probably a placeholder). It seems to play well with modern Sonic’s abilities even if the player doesn’t play all that well. One interesting note is the jumping in and out of backgrounds.

BTW, during the modern video, at 2:10 the player gets stuck for awhile. I recommend you skip ahead to 3:30.

  1. I’m glad I’m getting both versions of this game. It just looks fun. I can’t wait to play it!

  2. Guys, there’s a different video for Modern Sonics gameplay, and it looks much better. The vid is from NiNTENDOMiNATi0N. Look his Youtube channel up, and you’ll see the video 🙂

    1. Ohh, wait…nvm, that is from Nintendomination! xD Sorry my phone didn’t load the vids fast enough, and I didn’t see it before, haha sorry Jason! I feel so stupid 😛

    1. I’m sure they’re going to, but it IS pretty silly that they’re getting so dangerously close to the release date and the 3DS version’s soundtrack isn’t even complete yet.

  3. I”m still not sure about purchasing a 3DS myself, lots of titles getting dropped, and a huge price drop in such a short amount of time(although expencive to begin with) Looks nice though 🙂 I’ll probably purchase this and the system once things get stableized a bit. That was always my favorite beginning stage to sonic games.Good times!

  4. Come on SEGA, reveal him. You know who I’m talking about, that red needle sack that trolls you in the level. CLASSIC KNUX >:O

  5. uhmm it could be me but at 1:18 sonic just slowly walks upside down without falling so once again the physics are a little screwed up first the uncirling thing now the physics i think dimps is trying to fuck this game up <83

  6. There’s really not much handheld games that made me want to play them more than the their home console counterparts, however this 3DS version certainly made me want to play it more than its home console counterpart. It really feels more like the old games.

The classic theme of Mushroom Hill Zone for the Modern style gameplay probably is going stick, since the attitudes toward the 2 Sonics between the USA developer and the Japanese developer seem to be in reverse of each other.
Besides, it’s such a nice music to begin with, why not keep it?

And yes, it’s pretty nice of them to allow Sonic to jump in and out of the backgrounds. It was also nice to see Sonic flying the bamboo copter.

As for on why the Classic style levels are so close to the original ones. Remember that this is the game that remake the old levels.

Anyway. SEGA seems to be hiding a lot of secrets, so this playable demo probably is only a small amount of what already being developed. The development of the PS3/360 version is already pretty much finished early this year, they’re now just polishing it and finishing the development of the Japanese version. Now what they’re waiting now is for Dimps to finish the 3DS version.

  7. I think they woulda done alot better job with a better engine, or imo they coulda done it for ds it’s alot more faster. that and if you don’t have a 3ds you don’t have to worry about it. and if you do have a 3ds just play it on that. 😀

  8. Hmm i swear people need to learn the controls, Stomp,Slide,Boost,AirBoost its not really that hard just press the Y button for the slide R button Stomp Down+B and the AirBoost just get in the air and use Y

  9. God this guy sucked!!! But anyways this game for both the 3DS and the consoles are shaping up to be the best Sonic game probably since SA2 I wish it was for the Wii especially since my mom’s friend gave us 1 yesterday I guess there’s Sonic 4 🙂

  10. Still unsure about this Version but the soundtrack is pretty good I’m glad they are bringing back MHZ but that person playing…Oh god :/
