You may remember the big announced regarding PSO2 last year, right? Well, SEGA has finally released a new trailer and screenshots for the game. The trailer and it’s subsequent translation can be seen below. For screenshots, head over to the source, SEGAbits.

The following translation was done by the website andriasang.
As reported at 4Gamer, the video Sega showed at the event had a bunch of phrases that may provide some hints about the game’s background.
First, what appears to be the overarching story:
The ship fleet Oracle (written in Japanese, “オラクル”) which travels the endless stars. A new adventure that awaits on the countless planets. Invasion of the malice that covers the universe. The name of the people who face off against them is Arcs (in Japanese, “アークス”). Will the universe be saved, or will it be swallowed up? It’s in the hands of the hero (you).
The above is just a super quick translation of 4Gamer’s summary. 4Gamer said that it might have made some errors in its transcript.
The video also mentioned a few key words and phrases:
Is there adventure in today’s RPGs?
Always, to a new field. Random field.
Original Combos
TPS style
Jump Action
Hybrid Custom Action
It gives you a foreboding feeling — seamless weather.
Something will happen every time!? Interrupt event
Aiming for “Endless Advneture.”
The adventure without end, once again.Phantasy Star series producer Satoshi Sakai took the stage at the event and said that the staff is aiming to give players the feeling of adventure that has been lost in today’s RPGs. He described the game as “a brand new title” and said that he hopes the game will be enjoyed by series fans, online gamers and even players who have yet to get into online games.
Further details on the game will be released ahead of the alpha test, which kicks off this summer.
At the moment, this game is only confirmed as a PC release.
Oh hell yeah!!
The original PSO game for the Dreamcast was a pretty insipid RPG with bland fighting mechanics, saved by an addictive online component that was revolutionary for its time. Hopefully this game will show us how far the series has come.
O… M… G!! As much as I love Sonic, Phantasy Star is another Sega series that I really get excited over as well. Seeing all of the action in this really has me pumped. I hope that my PC can run this game when it comes out in the states.. whenever that maybe.
Man where is my NEXT GEN HUCAST AT?
Yep, PSO on Dreamcast was way ahead of it’s time.. and it played flawlessly on dial-up (unlike todays crappy Nintendo service), the only reason I stopped playing was because I didn’t have access to a CC to pay for subscription.
Not sure if it’s going to be a success thou, PSU was kind of a bomb member-wise and WarCraft is still going strong
If it’s half as good as Phantasy Star 4, I will buy it.
PSU has worked massivly well in Japan, where as over here it’s only been successful to any extent on the 360. However, it’s lack of players and slow demise is largly down to the western studios extreamly slow and inconsistant content updates, often known for leaving the game for anywhere up to 8-9 months without adding anything new when the Jap version gets updates and content on almost a monthly basis.
This I think has mainly been caused by splitting PSU accross 3 different platforms in both countries though. Over here we’ve had the PC and Ps2 versions shut down and now thier consentrating on the 360 instead, which has to be said, has increased updates, but too little too late. What was once a 4 full servers a night has dwindled to around 1 full sever at best on a good night.
Sega and Sonic Team appear to have realised these problems and learnt thier lessons as PSO2 will be restricted to PC only! Great news as practicly everyone has a PC these days, which means you won’t have fans old and new spread out accross multiple platforms and with only one platform to work on means more updates, and content, at a more regular pace.
Lets see if they can nails the games art style, items, and gameplay down now and see if they can make this well and truly work. I bloody hope so!!
I’m totally getting this… good thing I’m a 1/3rd of the way towards my laptop…. PSO2 will be sweet on a hd screen…
Funny thing.. A few days ago I was talking about wanting to get into an MMO again… then I see this… Thank you SEGA!
