Today SEGA has announced the launch in India of Sonic Cricket for mobile. The game has been created by UTV Indiagames, who has developed a wide catalogue of games for mobile platforms, including many other cricket titles.
UTV Indiagames CEO Vishal Gondal explains Sonic Cricket “adds an additional entertainment and fun twist” to the sport and the team is looking forward to offering players “a new opportunity to enjoy their favourite sport, the Sonic way!”. Sounds similar to what Sumo Digital has done in recent years for Sonic and other SEGA franchises with tennis and kart racing.
SEGA’s mobile department manager Kaoru Nagai says the company is looking to spread the Sonic brand to India with Sonic Cricket and this new game will be considered as one of their breakthroughs as part of the company’s 20th Anniversary celebrations for the Sonic franchise.

MUMBAI: UTV Indiagames has partnered with the interactive entertainment company Sega Corp. to launch dashing arcade style game Sonic Cricket for mobile.
UTV Indiagames CEO Vishal Gondal said, “Adding an additional entertainment and fun twist to your usual game of cricket, we have associated with Sega, the brainchild behind the much loved character and introduced Sonic to the cricketing world on mobile. With the launch of this game, we look forward to offering gaming enthusiasts, a new opportunity to enjoy their favourite sport, the Sonic way!”
According to the company, Sonic Cricket will be blended in with the original infamous soundtrack of Sonic. It is a fast moving cricket game targeted at both the enthusiasts of the game and fans of the character.
Sega Corporation mobile department manager Kaoru Nagai said, “Our association with UTV Indiagames reiterates our commitment to spread the ‘Sonic’ brand to the users in India. Launching Sonic Cricket will definitely be considered as one of our breakthroughs as 2011 is Sonic’s 20th anniversary and bringing together the character with one of the most played games in this country, will definitely add to our celebrations.”

For a guy who lives in Australia, I foresee these possiblities. Sonic can bowl ‘Super’ fast-pace (..course, if he bats, he’ll proberly beats Sir Don Bradman’s batting average), Tails a fielder, Knuckles an opener batsman, Shadow (for some reason) an all-rounder. Silver will own Wicketkeeper and Eggman will be the umpire (lol it will make the post game episode more interesting). Oh I almost forgot, Big can be the 12th man that brings out the drinks. Ha!

Anyway, I think this looks like it’d be a pretty snazzy way to get through slow nights at work. I’ve already beat Sonic 2 a million and one times. I doubt this will get an American release, but if it does, sure!

Yeah, SEGA won’t produce more Sonic-themed sports games anytime soon.. Unless of course, they have a desire to blatantly ride Nintendo’s obnoxiously large bellend… I’d like to think our corporate boys are smarter than that.
