SEGA and UTV Indiagames Launch Sonic Cricket For Mobile

Today SEGA has announced the launch in India of Sonic Cricket for mobile. The game has been created by UTV Indiagames, who has developed a wide catalogue of games for mobile platforms, including many other cricket titles.

UTV Indiagames CEO Vishal Gondal explains Sonic Cricket “adds an additional entertainment and fun twist” to the sport and the team is looking forward to offering players “a new opportunity to enjoy their favourite sport, the Sonic way!”. Sounds similar to what Sumo Digital has done in recent years for Sonic and other SEGA franchises with tennis and kart racing.

SEGA’s mobile department manager Kaoru Nagai says the company is looking to spread the Sonic brand to India with Sonic Cricket and this new game will be considered as one of their breakthroughs as part of the company’s 20th Anniversary celebrations for the Sonic franchise.

  1. Initial reaction: What the bloody smegging heck is this???
    Moments later: Lol. I doubt even Sonic could make the most boring sport on earth any less dull.

  2. Cricket? Nobody in America understands Cricket! You gotta know what a CRUMPET is to understand Cricket!

  3. @Yoshi

    Whats a crumpet? Lol but I know I had to look it up! But anyway there is no way this is the big announcement game! At least… I hope not :/

  4. @Yoshi…I’ll teach you (BOOOM!). Well, well. 6 runs. (TMNT reference huh?)
    @SonicGuy…Nah it’s definetly a third party game.

    For a guy who lives in Australia, I foresee these possiblities. Sonic can bowl ‘Super’ fast-pace (..course, if he bats, he’ll proberly beats Sir Don Bradman’s batting average), Tails a fielder, Knuckles an opener batsman, Shadow (for some reason) an all-rounder. Silver will own Wicketkeeper and Eggman will be the umpire (lol it will make the post game episode more interesting). Oh I almost forgot, Big can be the 12th man that brings out the drinks. Ha!

    If you don’t understand all that, well that’s just not cricket or your just from the US (..no offence yanks)

  5. …Why is Amy a cheerleader? This is cricket, my dear. You should be sitting in the stands with a coke wearing some sunglasses and marking on your scoresheet.

    In other news, Sonic can cheat so well at this game. He could hit an /anything/ and then get about thirty other runs between the wickets in the process. XDDD

    Eggman: “That was a four.”
    Sonic: “No, that was a fifty-seven. Weren’t you watching me?”

  6. @YoshiAngemon
    Was that a Ninja Turtles reference? =D
    Anyway, I think this looks like it’d be a pretty snazzy way to get through slow nights at work. I’ve already beat Sonic 2 a million and one times. I doubt this will get an American release, but if it does, sure!

  7. You mean that Sonic finally made a game about a sport that Mario hasn’t done yet?

    WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING HERE!?

    Totally wants to see Eggman in action.

  8. Am I the only one happy!?

    WOOHOO! I love cricket! Sonic is not popular in India at all! I hope Sonic becomes famous there! Then I’ll be able to finally find fans like me! Come one SEGA! Make Sonic popular there! Please! I am dying! I have been waiting 6 years! I live in Pakistan and I am a gamer who is extremely lonely… I hope SEGA will make more brands.

  9. @Kaoz

    Yeah, SEGA won’t produce more Sonic-themed sports games anytime soon.. Unless of course, they have a desire to blatantly ride Nintendo’s obnoxiously large bellend… I’d like to think our corporate boys are smarter than that.

    We want Sonic Superior, not Mario Mediocre.

  10. Sonic… Cricket?! I have no effin’ clue what cricket IS! Well, I know dudes over the Atlantic play it. Other than that… huh?

    It’s games like this that are ruining Sonic’s good reputation. That, and SEGA plasters Sonic’s face on everything just so they can make a quick buck.

  11. Um all of you who are complaining you do realize this is meant for Indian audiences right?

    @BlazingChaos:

    I highly doubt minor games like this ruin Sonic’s reputation.

  12. @Jim-X
    I always thought golf was the most boring sport in the world, but now that I think about it, you may be right.

    @YoshiAngemon
    Hmm. I’m American, and I know what cricket AND crumpets are.
