SEGA Officially Announces Dreamcast Collection

SEGA has today officially announced the Dreamcast Collection, a title that was rumoured to be on the way in November last year and later confirmed in December by SEGA’s Alan Pritchard. The collection will include all Dreamcast games that have been released or are currently on the way to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, which are Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi, Space Channel 5: Part 2 and SEGA Bass Fishing. There’s currently no word on if the Sonic Adventure DX: Director’s Cut DLC will be included.

The Dreamcast Collection will be available for Xbox 360, PC and PC Download on February 25th 2011 in Europe and February 22nd in North America, February 24th in Australia and February 25th in New Zealand. It seems PS3 owners will have to stick to the individual releases on PlayStation Network.

The full press release sent out by SEGA is available below:

SEGA® Europe Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced that a packaged compilation of classic titles from SEGA’s popular Dreamcast™ console will hit retail shelves on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and the PC. The Dreamcast Collection will be available on February 25th 2011 in Europe and February 22nd in North America, February 24th in Australia and February 25th in New Zealand.

The Dreamcast Collection includes the fan favourites Sonic Adventure™, Crazy Taxi™, SEGA Bass Fishing™ and Space Channel 5™: Part 2. Players will get to enjoy four very different Dreamcast experiences, from hopping behind the steering wheel of Crazy Taxi, to taking things a little slower by luring in their fish before catching them hook, line and sinker with SEGA Bass Fishing. Alternatively, take over as intergalactic news reporter Ulala in Space Channel 5: Part 2 and dance your way past the evil Rhythm Rogues, or make it all about speed in Sonic’s first Dreamcast outing, Sonic Adventure!

SEGA’s Dreamcast Collection features enhanced graphics for both platforms versions, providing an even more engaging experience. In addition to this, achievements and online leader boards will be available for each game providing a competitive edge and allowing players to prove their skills!

“The Dreamcast console is still remembered as a pioneering console for online gaming,” commented Gary Knight, VP of Marketing at SEGA of America and SEGA Europe “We are delighted to be able to offer to our large community of dedicated fans a collection such as Dreamcast Collection for them to enjoy old favourites on this generation of consoles”.

Dreamcast Collection will be available in Europe in February 2011 for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PC and PC digital download.

  1. Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but why would they have Space Channel Part 2 and not Part 1? Was the first really bad or something?

  2. @SuperStingray

No, part 1 was great. But I think part two actually included part 1 also (at least the North American version did) , So by including part 2, customers might be getting both games.

  3. Part 1 isnt included with Part 2, only in the PS2 version I believe. Part 1 had FMV backgrounds that would look stretched out and crappy if made HD, so they’d be unable to add widescreen support and HD would look crummy, Part 2 is generally a better version of Part 1 with model BGs, so they can be made in HD and widescreen support is possible

  4. So…? No Sonic Adventure 2?! Damn, looks like some of us will still have to keep a tight hold on our pantaloons.

  5. bad collection of games…sonic adventure and crazy taxi are already released for download…but tell me this..when they say enhanced graphics does that mean they are actually going to do something..unlike what they did with the downloads of the games…hmm..regardless i have a PS3 so i guess i won’t get the…”privilege” of picking up the re-re-released games……….

  6. Yeah. Definitely a disappointment. Fire up a Dreamcast or an emulator if you’re so inclined to relive the glory days.

  7. Well, this might be good for me. I own a dreamcast, but I only have the three Sonic games for it. Though I feel this should have more on it, I’m sure every REAL Sonic fan has played Adventure 1 by now.

  8. Unless space channel 5 is with Kinect this collection really is boring. Prooves again that Sega just doesn’t want to listen. Everyone knows people want SA2 yet we don’t get it. What about shemnue or a racing game?

No, SEGA expects us to buy this copy, followed by one XBLA release that matters, followed by another collection released with more unusual games to play with.

No wonders why gaming-companies have it diffecult these days…. they are really trying hard….

  9. Damn, I was hoping that Jet Set Radio Future wood be included. Oh well, at last my x box 360 will finally be put to use. Been givin’ my wii and the ps3 all the love the past few years. 😀

  10. @ glenn I know. i didnt read any confirmation on the ps3 version. if this doesnt come out on ps3 hen my 360 will actually get some love.

  11. @Sonic Yoda:
    No probs, mate 😉

Also, you might want to edit your post at SEGA Driven, because this collection isn’t coming to PS3.
    From the press release:
“Dreamcast Collection will be available in Europe in February 2011 for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PC and PC digital download.”

  12. OW MAH GAWD i have like sa1 4 FRGGING TIMES and sa2 once wich ius the gamecube version i want to play crazy taxi but still im not going get sa1 once again but if sega decides to but sa2 in it i might consider to buy it

  13. buuuuut if SEGA realy is going to change grapics in the games then i WILL buy it but still if its going to be the orginal sonic adventure its going to be the orginal levels with the SADX model but if sega is going to change that to the :orginal or somting totaly new /HD im so gonna buy it

  14. If they throw in DDR 2nd Mix and DDR Club Version into the collection then I’m sold! other then that fuck off Sega.

  15. Looks like a steal to me. I’ve never played Space Channel 5 or Crazy Taxi so it seems like a good buy.2

  16. Would be nice if they’d do something that hasn’t been rereleased yet… (*coughSonicShufflecough*) Or SA2 if this will be available for PC. =] I personally don’t see the use in releasing a collection for something that a lost of people have already purchased part of. Or worse, they may have purchased all of it. No extra profit there, unless they’ve got some pretty high definition graphics and sound added… Then it might be worthwile.

  17. Sega had a golden oppertunity to re-release classic games like Sonic Adventure 2 and they don’t. Extremely disappointing and I will not be buying it.

  18. I have a sneaky feeling that if they release SA2 online, it’ll be for the 20th Anniversary to celebrate 10 years of SA2.

Anyway – a wee bit disappointed here; I think it’s a missed opportunity.

  19. @Sonic Yoda: That’s just a lame-assed excuse that video game companies regularly pull when they simply can’t be arsed to do things properly – Sega is no exception; hell, they even used it before when people asked why the GBA’s Sonic Genesis was so god-awful.

Besides, they ported Rez and former Dreamcast exclusive Virtual-On: Oratorio Tangram to the 360 a while ago, and that just proves that they DO have the skills, the code libraries and probably the cash to do it. They’re just doing the typical corporate thing and acting like lazy moneygrabbers; nothing more, nothing less.

  20. I have Adventure DX on the GC and can play it on the Wii though the DC and GC had a few differences it was still the same but both had glitches

I can’t download games either prices going up this year and I don’t have Xbox Live but I’m sure most people will approve of this and possibly donwload the collection

I was interested in the others games but some were pretty alright I guess

Gonna get Colours (both versions) tomorrow both versions but hey here’s to Sonic’s 20th Anniversary hoping the year will be brighter and it’s already started by SEGA giving gifts

But I think I’m gonna skip this collection for now :/

  21. @Truesonic:
This collection is being released on disc for Xbox 360 and PC, so you don’t need to download it.

  22. Another Collection..? *Yawn*

Count me out :\ I think it’s a bit too much now

But this is a good gift for the fans I’ll admit

  23. @Shadzter

Oh right I see sorry my mistake and now that you corrected me I mind consider picking this up but eh not sure right now still I’ll think about it

  24. STOP the FUCKING collections. Jesus. NEW MATERIAL PLEASE.
…Or at least, y’ know, IMPROVE on the old material if you’re gonna make collections out of it.

  25. Need SA2 and (While wrong console) original NiGHTS… And some other DreamCast games for us who never owned a DreamCast

  26. ^
Yeah, how about a Saturn Collection?
I have time now to go through the first stage of Burning Rangers and look for every person before I get bored and turn it off

  27. The irony is we’re probably going to get the same ports of the very different PC versions of Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi. Looks like SEGA Bass Fishing has a PC version, too. I assume that’s the one going on the disc.

This may sound like me being a nitpicking fanboy, but SA has completely different character models and graphical changes, while Crazy Taxi has an entirely different soundtrack and all real-life brands removed from the game. It just annoys me that SEGA aren’t actually puttting Dreamcast games on the Dreamcast collection.

  28. Yeah, this collection has no games i really want, if it had shenmue id get it. Thats a game where no matter how clean it is, it wont work in my dreamcast. Sonic adventure most people already bought, and i dont know how crazy for crazy taxi ill be without the old music and fun logos in the game like pizza hut.

  29. If they had SA2 or one of the other racing games (can’t say Daytona due to the licensing issues) then I would pick it up but I will have to pass. At least the MMZ Collection from Capcom has plenty of content in addition to the four games on the card.

  30. Enhanced graphics, meaning the same repackaged “enhanced graphics” SaDX has been using since gcn that have already become outdated. Sega’s just being lazy with this one which is an incredible disapointment. Sonic Adventure isn’t even that great after a second playthrough, you get through Sonic and Tails story and the rest is pretty much a bore. Now maybe if they cleaned up the engine a bit (fixed real glitches, camera issues, fine tuned controls such as homing attack) then maybe it would be worth playing again. But hell, I’ve already wasted my time on the same port about 3 times now (and every time I feel I lose a bit more respect for it), I don’t intend to do it again. If they were to add Sa2 in there with updated graphics, then I might consider, but since it hasn’t been ported to anything but gcn they’d probably have to actually do a decent amount of work to make it playable on 360, ps3, so they probably won’t do it.

  31. jeez sega what happend?! Sonic’s ultimate genesis collection was awesome and worth the money because of all the games and content. Now all your giving us is freaking games with no extra content? i thought you guys were smarter than this… so not buying:(

  32. @toddywoddy – You can play Jet Set Radio Future on the 360 already, the original Xbox game runs fine on the 360.

As for the collection, seems a bit of a let down for me, no extra content? Come on sega.. you can do better. Maybe some interviews about the Dreamcast and its games etc?

  33. Now this’ll better be the REAL Dreamcast version of Sonic Adventure instead of DX with the Dreamcast title screen.
