French gaming website Gamekult.com has a gigantic treat for Sonic Colours fans, with 94 screenshots taken directly from the Wii version of the game. In the screens we get our first proper look at the Starlight Carnival stage, as well as new areas of previously seen stages, Sweet Mountain and Tropical Resort. We also get a peek at some of the games cutscenes, which contain French subtitles, but luckily you can see translations of them at the SSMB thanks to forum member, Core.
Mini-maps for each stage are revealed in the screenshots, with some Act markers having Wisps floating above them, but what this means isn’t clear. Could it mean that Act is where you unlock that particular Wisp? On top of all of this, you can also see more of the Sonic Simulator mode in action.
You can view all 94 screenshots below and let us know your thoughts on them in the comments section.

Thanks to Woun at the SSMB for the heads-up!
Seeing those cut scene screenies make me more excited to hear Roger’s voice in it since it looks so damn good!
all the more reason for me to buy it, besides it being released on my birthday.
For those of you that are having trouble viewing the screenshots: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woxTfqUpbOw I youtubed most of them.
Is there a reason that Sonic games on the Wii have graphics that look so choppy around the edges?
I mean look at this one: http://www.sonicstadium.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Gamekult-Sonic-Colours-Screenshots-18.jpg
It’s like high polygon models on the Sega Saturn ffs. This problem has been there ever since Secret Rings.
i have translated all the pictures if anyone wants to see them?
This stuff is too much. I don’t wanna spoil myself so i’m gonna wait till the game comes out π
@Ben
I dunno why that is to be honest. When the game is in motion you don’t notice it at all. It all looks smooth.
@ tjthefox:
Thanks, but Core at the SSMB already did. There’s a link in the article.
Look at the wisp being released in picture 6 their flat as paper cant say i noticed that when i played it
Im pretty sure this game will look better once we do get to play it!
tjthefox, obviousely Sonic Team is using a lot of trickery to get the graphics to look like they do! π If all those whisps were 3D models, I guess it could potentially happen that the game has a moment of slowdown or so, and maybe thats why the went with just images, because a) the resolution is quite low so itΒ΄s not that noticeable and b) like I said it reduces the chance of slowdown.
Now, the Wii is a powerful system, so it could probably NOT end up having a slowdown but perhaps Sonic Team just went the safe route?
I wish they would, if the game turns out to be Hit, make a video where they talk about Stuff like this, explain the Development process and etc. They did that with Nights – Journey of Dreams, so, I would welcome such a video very much.

THIS GAME IS AUTO-AWESOME!!
Wow!! Every single screen makes me more and more excited, it really reminds me of Unleashed which is awesome anyway. I can’t wait!!
Excellent!! This game is going to be EPIC!!
Nice…I liked the before-stage screen. I hope it’s gonna be as great as it looks.
After looking at the screenshots with the cutscenes, it looks like it’ll have same opening from the Sonic Colors manga or something very similar
Looks awesome, though ^^
@tjthefox: I would really appreciate it if you would give me the translated veresion of the cutscnes. I nneed to put them in the Sonic Wiki as I am an admin there.
@ 58SlugDrones!: There’s a link to translations in the article.
I have my translations right here, as close as I could get.
Welcome to the Grand park of interstellar communications of Eggman, likes agree, but I must admit that this place is incredible.
It has absolutely nothing to do with a diabolical plan or an act intended.
Yihaaa! Move along, the pesky aliens !
Have to connect the capacitor framiststique to the modulator optimization…
Twenty-three… Twenty-four… Twenty-five…
No, I’d rather a cheeseburger and a milkshake.
OK. Who are you and what happened to your people?
Wait a second…The Sonic Simulator says 1.5 players…….HOW THE HELL CAN YOU HAVE ONE AND A HALF PLAYERS????! Unless it’s….ONLINE CO-OP!!!!!
The cutscenes are so awesome. It looks like Sonic Unleashed style (Xbox360/PS3)
I still wonder if these are CG or In-game graphics.
Won’t watch them all, but I’m hyped more by the ones I saw.
Sure had to be a lot of work to transfer all of those.
Thanks for your hard work Shadzter.
heh,. looks like they have properly preportioned mouths…. that was the one thing i was hoping theyed remake for sonic adventure dx…. but noooooo they had to add game gear games and metal sonic, no harm in that….. good thing that it looks like were ganna get some good sonic games this year though.
That sonic simulator screen said in French “1 player 1.5 player 2 player”
i’m confused
Looks like they finally utilized the full graphical power behind the Wii for this Unleashed sequel. See? THIS is how Sonic should have played on the first Unleashed. THIS is how he should have looked.
But I digress, it looks fantastic anyways.
DAMMIT! LittleBigPlanet 2 was delayed till next year! I might as well get this instead.
I had a chance to look at the screens properly this time, and I just think the last few of the fleet like level look utterly amazing. This could be one of the best looking Wii games.
Starlight Carnival looks absolutely beautiful. I love the purpley-glowey-spacey type atmosphere. And the cutscenes look nice. Now I’m off to read the translations..
Hopefully they will enhance the graphics of the cutscenes cause I’m not fully satisfied of what i see here. They should make it how it was like in unleashed.
What is this, a hotel waiting room?

Im getting this now its so damn epic and its set in a space theme park LOL that means its the real sonic galaxy but in a theme park π i wish sega will make super sonic galaxy
They look pixelated because that’s how they’re rendered. They may be high-poly models, but they’re rendered in low resolution. If you took the exact same graphics and put them on the other consoles, they’d appear smooth. However, since these models aren’t necessarily designed with the other console in mind, you might find that the models aren’t as smooth as they appear on the Wii because the Wii’s low resolution is more forgiving.
I’m not gonna say that these models are inferior, as there’s no way to tell. I can only say that they’re rendered in low res, and that if the model isn’t as smooth, you wouldn’t be able to tell.
