An online flash cartoon, called ‘Press Start: Bonus Levels’, features David Humphrey in the latest episode. Humphrey’s name will instantly ring bells with Shadow fanatics as the original voice actor for the character from Sonic Adventure 2 to Sonic Heroes.
Press Start is a website featuring productions based on video game spoofs. A self-titled feature-length movie is planned, but ‘Bonus Levels’ is a spoof cartoon show that is updated every month. Previous episodes have referenced Pacman, Castlevania, Tomb Raider and Pitfall.
David Humphrey’s voice talent was not used to play the black hedgehog, but to play the part of the series’ resident vampire lord Vlad – a character previously voiced by Mortal Kombat’s John Turk. Turk’s unavailability for the new episode and the opening of Humphrey’s schedule allowed the original Shadow to take part.
The new episode was released on Friday, and has since been featured on amateur animation website Newgrounds.com. The cartoon episode’s director/producer, Ed Glaser, was most surprised both of the large attention for the latest production and David’s acceptance of the role.
“We’re not a big studio or anything, and have no industry connections, so having David onboard is both amazing and completely shocking… I didn’t think we had one chance in a million… He was a total blast to work with, and clearly had a lot of fun [playing as Vlad]… People seem to really dig the series, and we can’t wait to have the live-action movie to show, too!”
The new episode features Vlad being interrupted by yet another member of the Belmont family attempting to vanquish him. You can watch it directly from the Press Start website by clicking here.
