S&ASR Transformed to Feature ‘Mild Language’ and ‘Animated Blood’

SEGA’s Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed product page has updated with an ESRB rating of E10+ listing Animated Blood, Mild Language and Mild Cartoon Violence. Could the House of the Dead franchise be making a return appearance in Transformed with blood intact? If we take a look at the rating for the first game, it appears the mild language doesn’t derive from lyrics this time around. Could Shadow be returning to his d**n potty mouth ways? We expect a full rating will appear on the ESRB’s website soon. Maybe they will accidentally reveal a character again like they did with Ulala last time.

Sonic to have more appearances in Wreck-It Ralph

We’ve known for some time that Sonic was getting a cameo in the upcoming film Wreck-It Ralph, and at Sonic Boom we thought we may have seen that cameo. As it turns out, probably not! In a recent interview with TOTAL FILM, Wreck-It Ralph producer Clark Spencer discussed and another scene featuring Sonic, while discussing the input video game companies had over the course of the movie’s production.

“We had a scene where we wanted the rings to come out of Sonic, and SEGA said the only way that happens is if he falls over, and we didn’t have him fall over in the scene, so we actually went back and re-animated it.”

3 New Sonic: The Movi-errr Wreck-it-Ralph Posters

Here, we have 3 new Wreck-it-Ralph posters. One featuring the main cast, another featuring Bison and Q-Bert front and center with Eggman just off to the right and one that I will be bribing my local theater owner into giving me with Sonic front and center. Making Zangief look puny in comparison. Beautiful!

I dunno about you folks, but I gotta have that poster!

Sonic Races Onto Wii U Launch Line-Up in UK

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Sonic will be joining the likes of Mario and Rayman in the launch line-up for Nintendo’s upcoming Wii U console in the UK, as SEGA has revealed that Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is set to be released on 30th November.

This means the Wii U version will hit store shelves two weeks after the game releases on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita on 16th November.

In news that will no doubt delight those planning to pick up the game on Nintendo’s new console, SEGA has also confirmed that the Limited Edition version – boasting Metal Sonic as a playable character and an OutRun inspired track to race around – will be available on Wii U as well.

Games Radar Uploads ASRT Wii-U Gameplay

Games Radar have uploaded a short video showing gameplay footage of ASRT on the Wii-U, however unlike your typical gameplay video, this one includes a picture in picture of the controller, giving you an idea as to what appears on the screen as well as how one controls the game.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwrHlPNPdPg

In terms of the game itself, the only criticisms I can spot are from the frame rate of the early build. The main problems seem to be with the controller itself. The screen is ‘distracting’ and that it’s ‘hard to press the boost’ assuming this means the ‘weapons fire’ button, since boost triggers automatically following a drift? That said there are a number of positives from the video like a ‘good sense of speed’ and the player does seem to be enjoying himself despite it being an early build.

Nothing much else new is shown in the video other than maybe some weapons, though we do get our first clear glimpse of the ‘Seaside Hill Monster,’ I don’t know if he/she has an official name yet. My theory? Eggman finally got Nessie.

So? What do you think? The comment box awaits!

Thanks to FourCartridge for the heads up.

More Sonic in Wreck-It Ralph?

Looks like the blue blur might be in for more than just a PSA cameo.

On the Wreck-It Ralph Facebook page, a new poster for the upcoming Disney movie has been unveiled. What has caught the attention of many is the addition of a certain Sonic the Hedgehog.

Rich Moore has not only confirmed Sonic’s appearance in the film, but generously showed fans a clip of the film back at Sonic Boom, where Sonic is seen giving a public service announcement not too unlike those of the old Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon. However, the new poster, along with a recently released Japanese trailer for the movie (viewable after the jump!), seems to suggest that Sonic just might be playing a much bigger role in this theatrical love letter to retro gaming.

Wreck-It Ralph will premiere in North American theatres on November 2nd. Ralph is also a playable character in the upcoming Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.

New Wreck-It Ralph Trailer Includes Sonic Cameo

A new trailer has just been released for upcoming Disney film Wreck-It Ralph, the story of a videogame antagonist who gets tired of being a bad guy and attempts to redeem his ways.

For those not already in the know, the film will contain numerous cameos by famous gaming icons, including our very own Sonic the Hedgehog – who you can catch a very brief glimpse of in this trailer. Sonic’s cameo appears at around the 0:47 mark but be warned… blink and you’ll miss it!

Doctor Eggman also makes a cameo appearance in the new trailer, which you can view over at Yahoo! Movies.

As previously reported, Sonic will be voiced in the movie by his official voice actor Roger Craig Smith, and Wreck-It Ralph himself will be starring alongside the blue blur as a playable character in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed this holiday season.

Wreck-It Ralph is due to hit cinemas in the US on 2nd November, and will make its way across the pond for a UK release on 15th February 2013.

Where’s Sonic? Why, He’s in This New Book Of Course!

Some of you may remember an old book published by ‘Ladybird’ called ‘Where’s Sonic?’ The book was pretty much a ‘Where’s Wally/Waldo’ clone, only it had Sonic characters instead of the mischievous man in the red and white jumper. In the 90’s and to this day these books were incredibly popular with kids and adults. If you were a kid sitting in the back of a car on a long journey, these books were a blast! So a Sonic themed one was a dream come true for lots of fans growing up in the 90’s.

The Sound Check with Dr. Mack Foxx

It’s Saturday night! Time for music!

Now, some would call me out on bias due to me being a pianist, but I would sometimes find myself enjoying piano renditions of Sonic tunes as some of the best things ever. So, for this week, that’s exactly what we’ve got for you!

One of a team of two, this week’s guest on the Sound Check has been covering Sonic music for quite some time already! They’ve been featured once before on Sound Test Saturday as well! With EspioKaos’ MIDIs, this man has breathed new life into old tunes through one of my favourite instrumentations around, and together they have brought over 50 tracks to the table! SEGA vs Nintendo Parody Anime Set for 2012 Release

While Sonic has made several TV appearances in several different cartoon incarnations ranging from good to terrible (we’ll let you decide which is which), none have been quite as intruiging as what is set to hit Japanese TV later this year.

Aoi Sekai no Chushin de (translated as “In the Centre of the Blue World”) is a manga retelling of the story of the console wars with a fantasy twist created by Anastasia Shestakova and illustrated by Crimson. While the green-light was given for the anime back in March, this information has gone mostly unnoticed on Western shores.

Anime News Network recently posted news on the upcoming broadcast:

The story re-imagines the real-life console wars as a fantasy tale — the Segua Kingdom is locked in an age-old war with the Ninterudo Empire for dominance of the land of Consume. Segua now finds itself on the defensive, but an unlikely hero has risen in the form of Gear, a boy who brags about his breakneck speed. Gear helps turn the tide of the war.

At present it looks fairly unlikely that Aoi Sekai no Chushin ne will be officially affiliated with any of the companies the story is based around, however it will probably garner the attention of both SEGA and Nintendo fans worldwide.

See how many references you can spot to SEGA and other videogame IPs in the character designs below!

Thumbs up to Soniman on the SSMB for spotting this!

New ASR Transformed Wii U and 3DS Details: Miis Confirmed, Graphics “On-Par” With Current Gen Consoles

Some new details regarding the Wii U and 3DS versions of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed have surfaced thanks to an article posted on Eurogamer – including a statement from Sumo Digital deeming the graphical prowess of Nintendo’s upcoming HD console to be the same as, if not “maybe even better”, than the likes of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

That’s good news for anyone worrying that the Wii U version wouldn’t quite be up to scratch, and if that’s not enough, you’ll be able to make use of the console’s GamePad either for Remote Play or as a rear view display to help you out during heated races. Alternatively it can take on the role of a “weapon-cam”, allowing you to guide items such as rockets around the race track and into your opponents!

The other big new piece of information here is that both the Wii U and 3DS versions will support Miis as playable characters, so if you’ve ever fancied taking on Sonic the Hedgehog or one of the many other SEGA All-Stars in a race as yourself, the option is there to make your dreams come true!

It’s sounding like the Nintendo exclusive versions of this game are turning out to be very unique, so be sure to stay tuned to TSS for all the latest details in the build-up to their release!

S&ASRT IGN Preview Gives New Wii U Details

There’s more Sonic All-Stars new racing your way today as IGN reveals a hands-on preview with the Wii-U version. The Wii-U version will include the ability to play the game on the game pad only sans TV or can be used to include a hub to keep the main screen clear.

When you’re in a race, jockeying for position, the screen displays a range of pertinent information – the current order of racers, a mini-map of the course. It’s all unintrusive and useful, but I expect most people to keep their eyes firmly on the race. Similarly, when you unleash one of the game’s eccentric power-ups, you’ll be able to see its destiny on the GamePad’s screen. Launch a remote-controlled car loaded with a stick of dynamite and you can watch it travel towards its unfortunate target.

Also mentioned is one of the games arena modes that use the Wii-U game pad to it’s advantage.

Depending on the circumstances, a GamePad can prove to be an advantage or disadvantage, and All-Stars Racing Transformed smartly uses this discrepancy as the basis for its mini-games.

I only saw one during my time with the Wii U version, called ‘Super Monkey Ball Arena’, and whomever had the GamePad took control of AiAi, who was as usual encased in his perspex sphere. Meanwhile, opponents using Classic Controllers played as Sonic and Tails in racing cars. The aim of the mini-game was simple: before the time ran out, squash the tiny versions of Sonic and Tails, who were driving around attempting to collect as many bananas as possible.

The Wii-U version of the game is shaping up to be very unique from the other consoles. We should be hearing more as the game nears it’s launch in November. In the meantime, make sure to check the full preview on IGN.
