Sonic Augmented Reality Tops Out Now

It’s not unusual for new Sonic clothing to get released, but this one is a little different, it has a party trick to it. Chances are you’ve heard of Augmented Reality, that’s the thing where you hold up your camera phone or some other device with a camera on it to a picture/image and then the said image comes to life? ASR Transformed Wii U Patch On The Way

As anyone who has been following the release of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed will know, while the 360/PS3 versions have been lavished with praise almost universally, the same cannot be said for the Wii U version, which has instead been plagued by game-breaking bugs that have made the World Tour mode impossible to fully complete.

Well, finally… Nintendo gamers, you may rejoice! A patch for the Wii U version of SEGA’s new racer is on its way, according to Sumo Digital’s very own S0L:

An update on the Wii U too, SEGA have confirmed the issues are fixed and it’s currently over with Nintendo. We’re hoping it will go live very soon!

S0L

So, hold tight, Wii U owners – if all goes to plan you’ll be playing a fully functioning version of the game in no time! With any luck, the patch will also be released in time for (if not to coincide with) the European release of the Wii U this Friday, 30th November. We here at TSS will let you know when the patch arrives – we’re jolly nice chaps like that!

In the meantime, have you read our review of the 360/PS3 version? Want to know what we think of the Wii U version? Stay tuned for a review of it soon after the UK launch…!

Go to Starbucks, Get Sonic 4 Episode 2 For free!

You might remember earlier this year how we reported on Starbucks (UK) offering customers free download codes for Sonic 4 Episode 1? Well it looks like it’s the turn of you guys across the pond.

As part of Starbucks’ Pick of the Week promotion. Sonic 4 Episode 2 will be given away to anyone who enters a Starbucks store in North America and Canada. The promotion started on Tuesday (November 20th) and will expire on Tuesday 27th November, however the codes will be good until February 12th 2013.

If it’s anything like the UK Promotion, chances are you can find the codes where you collect your drink… and if you’re very naughty, you can probably take more than one code. So if you’ve not tried episode 2 yet or fancy a copy for your iOS device, now might be a time to head to Starbucks.

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed 3DS Delayed Again to Jan/Feb?

Fans looking forward to the Nintendo 3DS version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed may have to wait a little longer if updated retailer listings are anything to go by. The game was already delayed a while back in the US to December 11th, while Europe and Australia have been left hanging with no date and SEGA’s website still saying it’s “Out now”, though retailers have been saying December 6th (AU) and December 7th (EU)… until now.

Amazon and GameStop websites in both the US and Europe have updated their listings for S&ASRT 3DS to various dates ranging from January 25th 2013 to February 15th 2013. Could the game be getting delayed again? With an extreme lack of news and media for this version of the game, it wouldn’t be surprising if the game isn’t ready and needs more development time.

We’ll keep our eyes open for an official update and pass on anything we learn.
Christmas Unlockable Found in S&ASR Transformed

An unlockable Christmas gift has been found in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed by changing the system date to December 25th 2012. The Sonic Stadium has tried this out on the Xbox 360 version and can confirm it works when the Xbox 360 console is not connected to Xbox Live, however, we do not know if this works on the PS3 or Wii U versions.

UPDATE: Gagaman in the comments has confirmed it works on PS3, too.
UPDATE 2: Pete in the comments has confirmed it works for Wii U, too.

To find out what the unlockable is, click the jump, but don’t say we didn’t warn you if you don’t want your Christmas gift from SEGA and Sumo Digital spoiled.

Looks like we won’t have to be waiting for much longer.

Coinciding with the Japanese release, Sonic the Fighters HD (along with Fighting Vipers and Virtua Fighters 2) will become available digitally to Western audiences as early as next week!

The official SEGA Blog has confirmed that the upgraded brawler, which boasts online play and extra playable characters previously unavailable in the original, will roll out worldwide beginning from the 27th of November for North American PSN users at the cheap price of $4,99. This translates to 400MP on XBLA, with the arcade title releasing around the world the following day.

PSN users in Europe will have to wait until December 5th, where the game will be priced at €4.49/£3.69.

So, who’s excited to throw down in fisticuffs on the online ring?

Sonic and All Stars Wii U Patch Predicament

UPDATE: According to Nuckles87, patch only affect first two boost missions. Costing you 8 stars at the most, so not as bad as previously thought.

New Wii U owners may not want to update too fast. It seems Sega’s first patch for Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed has a glitch in it that stops some boost challenges from having checkpoints. Leaving you with no other choice but to fail the mission which leaves you stuck. However, there are some ways around it.

Play while it’s updating and finish the challenge. There’s no guarantee that there won’t be another glitched challenge, but it will get you past that.

Editor Nuckles87 has discovered that if you fail the mission four times on easy, it will let you pass to the next challenge.

If you just got your brand new Wii U. I’d recommend holding off on doing the system update until this game breaking issue gets a new patch of it’s own.

Community Challenged to Decide Transformed DLC Characters

Selecting characters for Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing: Transformed has been no easy task for the SUMO Digital team, with many fans voicing their opinions as to which SEGA characters they want to see included in the roster.

A few days ago, Steve Lycett of SUMO Digital (otherwise known as S0L on the interwebs) issued the community a challenge via the SEGA forums:

I’ll set you a challange. Without any policing from the SUMO or SEGA crew, if you can all agree on three characters by the 1st of December and prove there is sufficient interest of at least 1000 unique people *per* character, I will present the result to SEGA. I can’t promise anything will happen as a result, but since you’re starting it…

While nothing is set in stone as to what the outcome of any response will be, the community have already formed a collective and responded. T B from the SEGA forums has organised a set of petitions for the introduction of several SEGA characters as DLC for ASR:T.

Included in the list of characters you can petition for are Axel Stone from Streets of Rage, Ristar, Segata Sanshiro and Bayonetta amongst a whole host of familiar characters.

If you want to participate by adding your signature to one or more of the petitions, follow this link to the SEGA forum which outlines what is required to add your name to the cause.

Sonic Classic Collection Coming to PSN Next Week?

Whilst everybody has been getting excited over ASRT and Sonic the Fighters, it seems something has slipped under the radar. Website PSNStores.com who list sneak peeks of what will be on the Playstation Store in the coming weeks are claiming that a ‘Sonic Classic Collection’ will be coming to the PSN next week.

This is… rather strange. Mainly because whilst Xbox 360 owners have been able to enjoy more or less all the main classic Sonic titles via the Xbox Live Arcade, PS3 owners have only had Sonic 1 & 2 since 2011 with no sign of Sonic 3 or Sonic & Knuckles.

First 4 Figures Teases Shadow Statue

Guess who is coming out to play? Is it a clone!? Is it an android!? No! It’s Shadow the Hedgehog Dah-Na-Nah! First4Figures released a new teaser image of the next statue in their Sonic line. Shadow, Shadow the Hedgehog, MARIA!

No release date was given nor price, but going by previous statues. expect to pay nearly $230-$250 depending on which version you get. As for release? New Sonic All Stars Racing Trailer Shows Off Wii U Features

This morning, Sega put up another trailer for Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed. This time, the focus is on all the features of the Wii U version. Features shown include 5 player split-screen, 10 player online, rear view and weapon view cameras, optional tilt control and more. If the video is indicative of the Wii U version, it’s looking pretty smooth. Now you know why this is the version I’m picking up with my launch Wii U.

And you too can pick Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed on Wii U, 360 or PS3 when it races into stores November 18th in the US and November 16 in Europe (Wii U version Nov 30).

Dreamy Sonic Team OSTs Soar onto iTunes

And I honestly hope your wallets are ready for them.

The folks at SEGA are working on double time as of late. From the North American premiere of Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph last weekend, where the blue blur made numerous cameos, and with Sumo Digital’s Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed on the way this month, some would expect that that would be all from SEGA for the upcoming holidays. With everyone’s attention elsewhere, SEGA has quietly released numerous soundtracks onto the iTunes market.

Available for select regions, specifically the US, Japan, and most of Europe, the onslaught of soundtrack releases began last week with Sonic the Hedgehog Original Soundtrack and Sonic Unleashed Original Soundtrack: Planetary Pieces. Eager fans of Sonic Unleashed and Sonic 2006‘s music may now procure the complete soundtrack to both games!

And today (by EST standards, mind you!), I was notified by TRiPPY of NightsintoDreams.com that NiGHTS into dreams… Perfect Album and NiGHTS: Journey into Dreams Original Soundtrack have both snuck onto the digital music marketplace as well! The timing is perfect, considering that NiGHTS into Dreams saw an upgraded rerelease onto XBLA and PSN worldwide just last month (which, if you haven’t bought and played already, you should)!

S&ASRT 3DS & Vita Delayed in Europe? Lycett: Nov 16th Release “Unlikely”

With 9 days to go until the game’s Australian release and 10 days until its European release, fans looking to pick up the 3DS and/or PS Vita versions of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed really want to know if the game will see a delayed release like in the US or not. The delay was announced a month ago by SEGA of America, but SEGA Europe hasn’t announced a similar delay here in Europe or Australia. Their European press site, website and recent press releases all still list the handheld versions for a November 16th release.

To clear everything up, Sumo Digital’s Steve Lycett aka S0L has revealed at the SSMB that the team are still working on the handheld versions and so a November 16th release is unlikely. Lycett says they will release slightly later than the console versions.

Given we’re still working on it, 16th November UK release is unlikely. I think SEGA either have or are due to announce the handheld dates over here, they’re slightly later than the home console versions.

Lycett also confirmed that the PC version will release later than the console versions, too.

Again, I can’t say much here, it’s SEGA call to announce dates. All I can say right now is it’s going to after the console release date, but that’s all I can say.

Once SEGA announces release dates for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed on 3DS, PS Vita and PC, we’ll let you know.

History of Sonic the Hedgehog Book Due for December UK Release

UK fans waiting for the History of Sonic the Hedgehog book have finally been given an approximate release dat of early of December, according to UDON Entertainment who will be distributing the English version of the 300-page compendium.

Although this date is later than had been initially anticipated (and with confusion a few months ago as to whether the publication had been cancelled), UDON Entertainment explain via their blog that these delays were due to the quality of the translation from the French version of the book. Quoting from the blog:

The reason for the delay from the original shipping date comes entirely down to quality: we wanted to make this book the very best it could be. When we put up our initial preview pages along with the book’s announcement this summer, some fans noticed that the writing was a little bit stiff. While Pix’n Love did an amazing job with the French language edition of this book, the English translation that UDON was provided with just wasn’t the strongest it could be. We at UDON have always prided ourselves on the quality of our books, so when we realized that this book wouldn’t read as smoothly as we wanted it to, we decided to re-write all 300 pages of the English translation. That’s what the fans would want, and that’s what we wanted because we’re fans too.

The re-write by UDON Associate Editor Ash Paulsen (a Sonic super fan according to the blog) is now approved by SEGA, and should give fans looking to purchase a copy for Christmas extra assurance that this title should be a top quality production.

The blog also has a sneak preview of the first 12 pages, so if you’re in two minds you can check out what you can expect inside.

Sonic Jump on Android: Failure To Launch, or Botched Take-Off?

In a rather confusing turn of events, SEGA has seemingly dashed the hopes of Android-owning Sonic fans across the globe who were eagerly anticipating the release of Sonic Jump, as the official product page for the mobile-only game – which only a week ago revealed a November release date for Google Play – has since been updated to list only the iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) that the game is currently out on.

So, at first glance, one can assume that the Android listing was a mistake in the first place and the game was always intended to be iOS exclusive. But look a little further than the “available on” section of the page and there are still glimmers of hope for Android users.

S&ASR Transformed World Tour Details Revealed

A new preview of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed has appeared over at French gaming website Jeux Video, and in it we learn a bit more about the game’s World Tour mode. This mode is set-up like a board game, with each square representing a race challenge in which you can earn a bronze, silver or gold medal. A bronze medal will let you pass to the next square, but you will need a silver or gold to access squares that hold challenges that unlock characters and boss fights. Jeux Video reports that the difficulty varies depending on the objective of the challenge.

The biggest piece of Sonic & All Transformed-Stars Racing is in World Tour mode , inspired other productions as SEGA Virtua Tennis. This mode is represented in the form of a board game where the boxes represent different races containing many challenges with three medals specific to the key. To move to the next step, only the bronze is required. But to unlock boxes with special challenges unlocks characters and bossfights , silver and gold are essential. Difficulty varies depending on the objectives to be accomplished : finishing third, second or first, beating a rival with a lead more or less, make the most possible slippage or finish the race with a countdown by crossing checkpoints to repel.

More details after the jump.

ASRT Achievement List Revealed

So the achievements (and we assume the trophies) for Sonic & All Star Racing Transformed have been posted by xbox360achievements.org.  A quick look at them suggests that this is going to be a VERY hard game to get 100% on. Whilst the challenges themselves don’t sound too bad. Many players might be limited by technical aspects.

For instance. Two of the achievements require a single console to have 4 controllers hooked up. One of those demands that 4 local players come 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the same race against 6 other Ai racers.
